Updated by HoJo At  2:30 PM A day after Mets prospect Zack Wheeler rebounded with a solid performance for Las Vegas, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are considering a variety of factors in setting a date for Zack Wheeler’s major league debut and he could arrive on the next homestand. The Mets next homestand is the target, with the organization sensitive to putting Wheeler in an optimum position to succeed for his debut. That would mean a strong preference to pitching Wheeler against the struggling Cubs on the weekend of June 14-16 instead of against the NL Central leading Cardinals in the previous series. Team brass also isn’t high on the idea of having Wheeler make his major league debut in Atlanta – despite the fact the Mets will need another starter for a scheduled doubleheader on June 18 – because of the proximity to Wheeler’s hometown of Dallas, Ga. The Mets believe Wheeler will have enough jitters pitching in the majors for the first time and won’t need th...

Boom Or Bust: Cesar Puello, RF

CESAR PUELLO, RF BOOM OR BUST? Boom or Bust is a feature on our companion site MetsMinors.Net, where we ask our minor league writers to sound off on whether or not they think a particular Mets prospect will be a boom…or a bust. John B. Puello is an electrifying power hitter with some interesting tools.  Puello’s team leading seven home runs and 31 RBI’s (tied with Allan Dykstra...

Fried Rice: Has Collins Burned Out His Lefty Reliever?

If you didn’t know any better, you would think the Mets only had two relievers in their bullpen; closer Bobby Parnell and lefthander Scott Rice. On those rare occasions when the Mets need to protect a late lead, Parnell and Rice have been Terry Collins‘ first line of defense and his go-to guys. For Rice, it has led to an NL-leading 32 appearances. That puts the late-blooming...

How To Best Manage The Mets 40 Man Roster

As part of the ongoing discussion on who should play for the Mets and who should be sent down, brought up, or traded for, one constant requirement remains: creating enough space on the 40 man roster to permit all these maneuvers to take place. For those needing a refresher, a team’s 40 man (or “expanded”) roster consists of all players on the major league team (generally 25...

D’Arnaud To Be Reevaluated By Team Doctors Today

Mets assistant GM John Ricco spoke to reporters and said that catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud is in New York this morning to be reevaluated by team doctors. D’Arnaud, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of his first metatarsal in April, is still wearing the protective boot. The goal today is that doctors will find his foot sufficiently healed so that he can stop wearing...

Ace, and the Case of the Missing Runs!

Quite a trend that’s come over the Mets: a top notch performance, and no run support.  It’s happened with Harvey several times, who has pitched better than his 5-0 record shows.  Hefner has only just picked up his first win.  I’m not going to sit here and say that he has earned an undefeated record, because he hasn’t.  But looking at his appearances this year, he has...

I Said Don't ...

Now don't get swept by the Marlins. — Metstradamus (@Metstradamus) May 31, 2013 I should know better than to put the whammy on my team. But if this team is susceptible to something as harmless as my whammies, then it has bigger problems. Bigger problems ... as in the guy the Mets acquired for his defense misplaying a fly ball to center field costing Matt Harvey...

Marlins Phenom Jose Fernandez Silences Mets In 8-1 Loss

Jose Fernandez, the 20-year old Marlins pitching phenom, suffocated the Mets tonight as Miami beat them by the score of 8-1 to take their second straight game of the series. Collin McHugh made his first start of the season and he was in trouble right from the start. The righthander lasted just four innings and was charged with four runs on six hits and three walks while striking...

Little Used Mets Pitcher Talks Smack About Yankees After Sweeping Subway Series

You have to love a player that is so excited that his team won-not just won, but swept-- a series against their cross-town rival that he takes to Twitter to brag about it. If only common sense and the memory that his team is one of the worst in baseball didn't rear its ugly head and make him delete said message. Of course when it comes to anything that could even be...
