This was a great story about Kyrie’s amazing impressions this summer: “Kyrie Irving, 20, has a politician’s poise and polish, and he left USA Basketball’s pre-Olympics summer training camp with every endorsement that mattered. ‘Kyrie always impresses me,’ USA Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ‘This week, he’s been who I think he is, which is one of the top guards anywhere.’ Make no mistake: this wasn’t just Duke’s legendary coach glowing about one of his former Blue Devils. When it comes to judging the next generation of USA Basketball talent, the program’s top management and current stars agreed, Irving is the clear star in waiting. ‘For me, Kyrie Irving has definitely stood out more than anyone,’ LeBron James told CBSSports.com.” [Ben Golliver/CBS Sports]

Training camp goals include a look at a key player to watch, Jordan Cameron: “Coach Pat Shurmur says second-year tight end Jordan Cameron made one of the biggest leaps from last year, based on his conditioning in the offseason. Cameron then continued to show that improvement on the field during OTAs and minicamp. … Cameron is quicker than Watson. More because of a numbers game than anything else, Cameron was inactive in eight games last year. He caught five passes in the final three games when Watson was on injured reserve. He will have to show his blocking has improved as much as his route running and hands to unseat Watson, but he will get plenty of opportunities to do that in training camp.” [The Sports Xchange/Orange & Brown Report]

I’ve enjoyed reading recent scouting reports on Josh Gordon. Here are some more of his strengths: “Gordon’s ability to pluck the ball, turn up-field and make big plays running after the catch give him the talent to be a big play-maker in the NFL. While his route running definitely needs work, his ability to use his strength (Hand and shoulder) to push-off defender to create some separation will help him produce while he does so. He has naturally soft hands and is able to reach out and pluck the ball with surprising ease. He can reach behind or ahead of him to pluck ball without having to slow down and is able to get started up the field very quickly after the catch. His ability to find the hole/crease quickly after the catch, hit it fast and run through arm/grab tackles are what help him to make big plays.” [Russ Lande/NFL Analyst]

One of the best Indians blogs out there looks at the team’s most best trade assets: “The bulk of the Indians assets come in the form of low-ceiling pitching arms. Whether they be starters in Akron or Columbus, or bullpen arms scattered throughout the system, the Indians have a wealth of arms that “could” be interesting to the right buyer (or seller). None of these guys are trade “headliners,” and I doubt the Indians will be able to put together a Ubaldo-like “headline” trade. They already did that last year. The lack of development in the pre-Brad Grant positional prospects really costs the Indians.” [APV/Let's Go Tribe]

Ranking the top 50 players in college basketball for next season. This was the highest-ranked Buckeye and point guard: “6. Aaron Craft, PG, Ohio State – Yes, this means I value him as the best point guard in the country. From defense to distribution, what’s not to love?” [Jason McIntyre/The Big Lead]

A huge 2014 offensive tackle recruit came away impressed with the Buckeyes this week (insider): “Orlando Brown Jr. (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) saw Friday how big Ohio State is and the 6-foot-8, 370-pound offensive tackle loved it. Brown was in Columbus to visit the campus and the Buckeyes made an impression. ‘It was pretty interesting,’ Brown said. ‘I got to meet some of the coaches. I got to check out the campus, which is huge. I got to learn a little bit more — definitely got to learn a little bit more — about what they have to offer.’” [Brad Bournival/ESPN Buckeye Nation]
