Former Cavalier Delonte West is un-invited to the White House- “I’m banned from going to the White House, so I’m not going to make it,” West said after tonight’s 96-81 win over the New Orleans Hornets. “But I’m going home to D.C., I’m just not allowed to go to the White House. That’s what happens when you make bad decisions in your life. You can’t go to the White House. I’ve been there 100 times in my lifetime,” said West, who was born in D.C. “I live right around the corner. I live in D.C. It’s going to be ashamed the President isn’t going to get a chance to meet me. I’m the president of my house.” [Dwyer/Ball Don’t Lie]

The argument against a RB at #4- “Chris Ivory on PUP? No big deal. Mark Ingram gets turf toe and misses the final four games of the season? No big deal. Plug in Darren Sproles. Mix in a bit of Pierre Thomas. Average 39 points a game. Profit. No matter how good a RB is, he is a rolled ankle away from spinning your team into a 3 game funk.

On the other hand, Quarterbacks are protected like no other. Can’t hit them high. Can’t hit them low. Can’t even graze their head. Sure Quarterbacks still get hurt, but let’s compare the list of injured RB’s vs. QB’s. (And I’m only mentioned guys that were starters)” [Dawgs by Nature]

This weekend would have been Early Winn’s 92nd birthday. Big League Stew reviews his Hall of Fame career- “As his Hall of Fame page notes “But his true claim to fame will always be his time in the Indians rotation. Bob Feller and Bob Lemon both had more consistent peaks and shorter careers than Wynn; they were mostly done by their mid-30s while Wynn had a half-decade more excellent baseball left in him. Ultimately, he was third-best of the three. But there’s no dishonor in that. It was arguably the best one-two-three punch in history — the only competition is Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz, and that was 40 years later and a very different era.” [Remington/Big League Stew]

Forget a righty, just get a bat- “The Indians are already in a pinch from a matchup standpoint late in games where opposing managers can load up on left-handers against them, so the addition of a right-handed bat is not going to change things. What they should be focusing on is adding the best possible fit at first base regardless of what side of the plate that player hits from. This is why while Derrek Lee may be a good fit for the team because he is right-handed with pop and plays good defense, a better option may be Carlos Pena who is left-handed but has more pop, plays better defense, and arguably has more impact potential.

The Indians’ left-handed heavy lineup is something they are going to have to sink or swim with this season. At this point the best way to protect themselves from a heavy dose of left-handed pitching late in games is to build a strong bench loaded with right-handed hitters. With right-handed hitters like Shelley Duncan, Jason Donald, and Aaron Cunningham expected to be on the bench next season, they have three solid options to use depending on the situation and what left-handed hitter is up at the plate.” [Tony/Indians Prospect Insider]
