Watching the White Sox struggle this season has been hard enough on the fans. Imagine how taxing it has been for veteran slugger Paul Konerko who may be winding up his brilliant career this year. "It's the toughest I've ever seen. I've never experienced anything like this" Konerko said as the Sox fell to 28 games below .500 on Sunday. "You want to try to experience everything throughout your career but this is one I wish we would have dodged. It's not fun. I've been lucky in my whole time I've been here that we've always kind of been in it or right up until the end of August at the worst if not into September. "There was one year I think in '07 where we were out of it. But that was a little different because we had a bunch of injuries. Even the guys who stepped in for the guys who got hurt got hurt. It was just a different thing then because we just didn't have our team from June on so that's kind of a free pass there. ...

Next Sox captain? Beckham not thinking about it

White Sox captain Paul Konerko has not indulged those who speculate about whether he will retire this year after 15 seasons in Chicago and teammate Gordon Beckham wouldn't play what-if either Monday when asked whether he could fill a leadership void should Konerko leave. "He's got a lot more left in the tank so I wouldn't rule him out of playing next year"...

Chicago White Sox weekly round up August 5-11

White Sox manager Robin Ventura must be pleased with having a winning week. The Chicago White Sox started off the week very well, sweeping a three game series against the New York Yankees amidst Alex Rodriguez’s controversial return to Major League play.  However, the Sox ended up losing three out of four to the Minnesota Twins over three days.  Still, the White Sox ended up...

Yankees rumors: New York a fit for White Sox' Alexei Ramirez?

The Chicago White Sox have conducted quite the fire sale this season, parting with veterans such as Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, Jesse Crain and Matt Thornton. They may not be done shipping out regulars, as there's talk that Chicago could look to trade shortstop Alexei Ramirez. Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe reports there is interest in Ramirez, adding that the New York Yankees...

Twins return home after weekend slugfest in Chicago

The Chicagoland long-ball barrage of August 2013 is now over. And the Twins return home this week having emerged on the better end of it. Brian Dozier and Joe Mauer's fifth-frame home runs provided enough leeway in Minnesota's 5-2 victory Sunday that closed out a 3-1 series win against the White Sox. The twin shots were the team's 10th and 11th of the four-game stretch...

Several interesting facts about the late Indians and White Sox infielder Carlos Martinez

Today would have been the 48th birthday for former White Sox and Indians infielder Carlos Martinez. If you follow the game now, you may be confused with one of the Cardinals top pitching prospects, also named Carlos Martinez. There was a pitcher for the Florida Marlins who pitched in 2006, 2007 and 2009 that has the same name. If you search on baseballreference.com, you’d see several...

Jhonny Who? Jose Iglesias makes remarkable barehanded play against White Sox (VIDEO)

During the Tigers’ 6-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox last night, Tigers short stop Jose Iglesias displayed just why Dave Dombrowski chose to part with prized corner outfield prospect Avisail Garcia a few weeks ago. The play itself occurred during the 6th inning when Chicago’s Josh Phegley hit a weak grounder that just made it over the glove of Tigers’ starter Doug Fister (surprisingly...

White Sox rally to outlast Twins, 5-4

The way the season has gone for the White Sox nobody would have been surprised had the ninth-inning drive by Oswaldo Arcia ended up in the left-field bleachers at U.S. Cellular Field. But on this day at least the Sox’s fortune proved better than it has for most of 2013. Instead of a game-tying home run by Arcia Alejandro De Azo made a nice running catch near the wall to preserve...
