The Last Angry Fan:
Nothing beats the old post-game locker room celebration following a hard fought victory over league rival. The camaraderie, the jubilation, the ice cold beer, the rehashing of game events, the vintage 1980s Lionel Richie blasting from your ipod’s speakers.
Yes, the classic All Night Long, Lionel Richie’s catchy 80s smash hit, is the song of choice for the Nashville Predators locker room celebration tune, which may seem odd seeing that the majority of Predators players were either unborn, or, at best, toddlers, when the song was released way back in 1983 (the lone exception being 36-year-old elder statesman Francis Bouillon).
Dated or not, it’s hard to argue with the Preds taste in music, because All Night Long has everything you’d want in a party song—an infectious Caribbean beat, a chorus that’s fun and easy to sing along with, and the silky sweet vocals of the great Mr. Richie. Honestly, I defy anyone to come up with a better song for a group of burly, sweat-soaked hockey players to get down and funky with. It simply can’t be done.
But why All Night Long, other than the obvious that it’s a kickass song? Surprisingly, no one on the Predators is willing to take credit (via The Tennessean)…
The origins of the decision to play the song are murky at best. Jerred Smithson’s iPod is used for locker room music. But Smithson said he takes suggestions from players for songs, and mentioned goaltender Pekka Rinne asked Smithson to purchase it. Rinne denied these rumors.
Others on the team said enforcer Brian McGrattan found the song on Smithson’s iPod and decided it would be the team’s tune.
McGrattan would neither confirm nor deny these rumors to The Tennessean but said Smithson had most to do with the song being played in the locker room.
It matters not. What matters is that for seven times this year (and counting), the Nashville locker room has pumped out some vintage Lionel Richie, which, in any situation, is always a good thing.
Enjoy some for yourself…it always goes down smooth.

So, there’s this one guy named Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. You may have heard of him. He plays for the Edmonton Oilers and, despite being drafted just a few months ago, has played well enough to be the Calder Trophy front runner as the league’s rookie of the year.
All of a sudden, someone else has joined the party.
