In a decision that shocked no one, the Baltimore Orioles have non-tendered Luke Scott. Coming off the worst season of his career, the Orioles had no interest in giving the 33 year old a chance at making anywhere close to the $6.4 million he made in 2011. He suffered through injuries early on in the season, and never really recovered from them. He hit 220/301/402 this season, hitting 9 homers and driving in 22 runs.
The question is, should the O’s be looking at re-signing him? If Scott is healthy, he should be a strong rebound candidate. He made similar contact and maintained similar swinging strike rates in both 2011 and 2010, indicating that he didn’t lose bat speed. Essentially, he wasn’t having trouble seeing and making contact with the baseball. Which is a positive sign, because had either of these numbers drastically changed it would have been a sign that Scott’s decline was legitimate.
Part of the blame is just due to the balls not falling in, as his BA...
