Green Bay Press Gazette:
After seeing the ratings from last weekend's NFL draft, you have to wonder if the league will take things even further next year. You can bet it's at least thinking about it.The Nielsen Company reported Monday that a record 36.7 million people watched at least part of the draft on ESPN and ESPN2, which together showed 15 1/2 hours of coverage. That's about 5 percent higher than last year's audience and tops the 2006 high of 36.3 million.Thursday night's first round also was three percent higher than the first day of last year's draft. This was the first time the draft has been prime time, with the first round Thursday night and the secon- and third rounds Friday. The final four rounds were Saturday.Considering the increased audience, I wouldn't be surprised if the league adds another prime-time day, maybe either giving each of the first three rounds its own night, or breaking up the final four rounds into two days.-- Pete Dougherty, pdougher@greenbaypressga...
