Yesterday, our NCAA tournament bubble consisted of Florida and Rhode Island. Saturday, all hell broke loose, with three teams “stealing” bids – New Mexico State, Houston and to a lesser extent, Washington – and two bubble teams pulling upsets (Mississippi State and Minnesota) to stay alive. The repercussions were severe – teams that were thought to be locks, like Virginia Tech and Illinois, were thrust onto the bubble. The Bulldogs and Gophers can lock up spots with wins today, but if they can’t beat Kentucky and Ohio State, respectively, they will be two of 8 teams fighting for five spots. The committee will be faced with this decision: Reward teams that won their mid-major conference in the regular season (those guys have very few “Top 50 wins”) or take the teams from major conferences who have more “quality wins” against better opponents, but were inconsistent during the regular season?We̵...
