According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionW, it appears Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is thinking about retiring—especially if his team ends up winning the Super Bowl in February.
At 35, Gonzalez’s contract runs through next season, but if the Falcons end up hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he decided to end his career on top. Gonzalez will go down as one of the greatest players at his position to ever play the game and already has quite the resume to be inducted into the Hall of Fame; the only thing missing for Gonzalez is a championship.
Not only is he a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, but Gonzalez holds numerous records for a tight end—including single-season receptions, touchdowns, receptions, and receiving yards. One of the main reasons why Gonzalez joined the Falcons in 2009 was because he believed they gave him the best shot of winning a Super Bowl.
