This coming Friday August 3, the Los Angeles Dodgers are holding their first ever Star Trek Night at Dodger Stadium.  First off there be a giveaway of some really boss, limited edition Star Trek themed Dodgers t-shirts, that, when worn in the right circles, will make you cooler than an Andorian porn star.  But the highlight of the night will be the appearance of Capt. James T. Kirk himself, Sir William Shatner, arguably the finest actor of any generation, who will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. No word on whether or not The Shat will be entertaining the crowd with his rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, or better yet, Elton John’s Rocket Man.  I think that would be too much for even the most die hard “Trekkers” in attendance that night, what with their pointy Spock ears, replica Starfleet uniforms, and complete lack of social skills. From the Dodgers Official Website… Always wanted to be a member of the Starfleet Academy? Well now you can join fellow “Trekker...

Los Angeles Dodgers turn one minor move into a Philly-buster

Talk about turning your molehill into a mountain. On Monday, the Dodgers made a “non-headline” move when they acquired right handed reliever Brandon League, 29, from the Seattle Mariners. The original thinking was because the Dodgers have not been able to obtain another starting pitcher, shoring up the bullpen made sense. As it turns out,  League  was being used to set-up yet...

Dodgers close to sending Lindblom and another to Philly for Victorino

Ugh. Best lede ever, right? Well, this is far from the best trade ever. I'm not upset the Dodgers are close to sending reliever Josh Lindblom and an unknown second player to the Phillies for Shane Victorino. I don't have time for instant analysis, but I'm not especially in favor of this deal. Victorino is a marginal upgrade at best and the Dodgers still need a...

Hanley Ramirez freezes while losing his bat on half-swing (Video)

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Hanley Ramirez lost his bat during a half-swing at a third strike as he struck out during a second inning at-bat of Monday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ramirez apparently was so surprised that he actually held the pose for a second before walking back to the dugout. <p>Your browser does not support iframes.<...

D-backs look for consistency on the road

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in first place in the NL West. The Arizona Diamondbacks, though, aren't going away. The Dodgers open a three-game series at home against the Diamondbacks on Monday night. Los Angeles swept San Francisco in a three-game series over the weekend, recording back-to-back shutouts, including a 4-0 win Sunday, to move into a tie with the Giants atop...

Dodgers Close To Acquiring Shane Victorino

Jon Heyman is tweeting a deal is looking very likely. Jayson Stark is reporting that the Phillies are “close” to trading outfielder Shane Victorino to the Dodgers for right-hander Josh Lindblom and a second player. I told you so. Talks obviously accelerated after the Dodgers made Lindblom expendable by acquiring Brandon League from the Mariners last night. Victorino, an impending...

Billinglsey wins in SF for first time since 2007

The last time Chad Billingsley won a game at AT&T Park, he struck out two and didnt allow a run. That was in 2007. On Saturday, Billingsley took the ball for manager Don Mattingly, struck out two, and kept the Giants scoreless in 7.1 innings of shutout ball in the Dodgers' 10-0 win over the Giants on Saturday afternoon. Billingsley is now 2-0 since returning from the disabled...

Kershaw, Billingsley dominate Giants in SF

Payback is, well, you know. If you don't, ask the San Francisco Giants. During a three-game series in the Bay Area from June 25-27, the Dodgers were held scoreless, while the Giants scored 13 runs to sweep the series. The tables were turned this past weekend as Dodger pitching held the Giants without a run -- while the offense scored 19 -- to take the three games and move into...

Chad Billingsley Gets Friendly With Strike Zone

I had the opportunity to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers game on Saturday, which saw Chad Billingsley face off with Barry Zito. While I knew Billingsley was having a resurgence of sorts, his stellar outing versus the San Francisco Giants on this day sent me to the Fangraphs leader board where you can see him currently at 2.3 wins above replacement — hanging out with the likes of...

Kershaw pitches shutout, Dodgers sweep Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw pitched a five-hitter for his second shutout of the season, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 4-0 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the NL West leader. Luis Cruz drove in two runs, and Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, James Loney and Mark Ellis had two hits apiece for Los Angeles (56-47), which closed within one percentage...

Harang slammed in loss to D-backs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chris Johnson hit a grand slam in his first game with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Paul Goldschmidt hit a three run shot in the first inning -- both off Aaron Harang -- in a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Trevor Cahill (9-9) allowed a run and six hits over six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. The right-hander, acquired...

What you need to know about Josh Lindblom

The Phillies traded a good player and fan favorite in Shane Victorino, but they got two pitchers in exchange. The centerpiece of the deal was reliever Josh Lindblom, who could help in rebuilding a key part of the Phillies ballclub. Here's the scouting report on Lindblom.

Looks Like Shane Victorino Will Be Traded To Dodgers For Relief

Photo: Wikipedia Commons.Aloha, bruddah.  According to numerous reports, it looks like Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In return, the Dodgers will send over RHP Josh Lindblom and another player.  When it seemed that the Reds were highly likely for Victorino, the tables turned this morning. Reports came in that the Reds were out...

Dodgers and Phillies close to a deal for Shane Victorino

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports, the Los Angeles Dodgers are close to completing a deal that will send outfielder Shane Victorino to the Dodgers. Jayson Stark of ESPN adds that the Dodgers will send Josh Lindblom and a second player. Yesterday, we learned that the Dodgers and Reds were the last two standing in the Victorino's sweepstakes. The 31-year old outfielder is hitting...
