Cano hit the first of back-to-back home runs in the Mother’s day win and sweep of the Royals today. (Photo by Justin Edmonds/Getty Images) New York Yankees 4 — Kansas City Royals 2   A pair of home runs in the third send Yankees to Cleveland with a sweep after today’s 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals.   The Royals got to Kuroda early in the first inning with some productive outs. After a leadoff double, the Royals moved him over with a sacrifice bunt. The runner would score on a sacrifice fly to give the Royals the early lead. But this would be the only lead the Royals would have. In fact, following the sacrifice fly in the first inning, Kuroda would have 10 straight outs before his first and only walk of the game. Another productive out in the eighth inning would produce the second run of the game for the Royals. In 7.2 innings, Kuroda allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout. The Royals sent Ervin Santana to the mound to prevent the sweep. In the third inning, the Yankees bats would come alive in an instant. With Chris Stewart on first, Robinson Cano would deposit a first-pitch slider into right field, putting the Yankees ahead with his 10th home run of the season. Vernon Wells would follow in similar fashion, taking a 1-0 slider into left field to go back-to-back with Cano. For Wells, this was his ninth home run of an impressive season. Wells would single in an insurance run in the fifth inning for his second run of the game. David Robertson would help Hiroki Kuroda with the last out of the eighth inning. Mariano Rivera got the ninth inning of today’s game, going for the sweep. For his 15th save of the season, Rivera would need a double play and a fly out but would shut the door and continue his perfect final season.   Win – Hiroki Kuroda (5-2) Loss – Ervin Santana (3-2) Save – Mariano Rivera (15)   Notables Yankees *Robinson Cano – 2 for 4, R, 2-Run Home Run (10) in the 3rd, 2 RBI (23) *Vernon Wells – 3 for 4, R, Solo Home Run (9) in the 3rd,  2 RBI (20) Royals *Alex Gordon – 2 for 3, 2B, RBI (28) *Jarrod Dyson – 1 for 4, R, 2B   Current Yankees Record: 23-13   Get your Yankees Tickets from our friends at TiqIQ.
