With a promotion to Triple-A perhaps just a few days away, one of the Yankees top prospects in catcher Austin Romine has landed himself on the disabled list due to a back injury (link).
Romine, 22, was ranked as the 98th best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America before the season started. His numbers this year don’t immediately pop out at you, a .351 OBP with a .732 OPS, but they are promising numbers at the Double-A level especially considering they are coming from a strong defensive catcher.
To make things worse he was probably just days away from a promotion to Triple-A that was expected to come as soon as the Yankees promote their top prospect Jesus Montero to the Bronx.
The actually injury has been labeled as inflammation in his disks and the Yankees had not said when they expect him back. Back injuries are nasty for catchers though so unless it really is something minor he could be shutdown for the remainder of the season (there is only one month left in ...
