MLB Injury News:
Free agent Chien-Ming Wang recently held a workout for New
York Yankees’ scouts recently , and people in the organization believe the team
will reunite with the right-hander this spring, according to Dan Martin of The
New York Post.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that he’s
considering signing Wang to a minor league deal to provide the team with
additional rotation depth.
“We have some vacancies in the rotation at [Triple-A]
Scranton, so we’re exploring all those options and major league depth,” general
manager Brian Cashman said yesterday. “He obviously had a great time while he
was here [with the Yankees], so I think there’s some interest on his part. If
he was going to have to do a minor league deal somewhere, I think he would
probably prefer it to be here.”
Wang’s agent, Alan Chang, continues to say that he’s in
contact with several clubs. However, there seems to be an expectation that he
will eventually agree to a deal with the Yankees.
New York is currently thin beyond their first six starting
options – including CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda, Phil Hughes,
Ivan Nova and David Phelps. They are expected to get Michael Pineda – who’s
recovering from injury – back at some point this season.
