Blake Griffin’s “dunk” last week has been dethroned as the dunk of the year. Such ancillary titles are silly at best, but for the sake of arguing Russell Westbrook now has the title. This dunk was such a tremendous display of athleticism, that the announcers were left grunting only unintelligible words. Westbrook drove the lane, took off in traffic and soared over just about everyone on the court throwing down a dunk that some might label as “ridiculous.”
The play started as Westbrook came off a screen and found some space coming right down the middle of the lane. He jumped, no he glided, toward the rim and flushed home the jam. It is a thing of beauty. It’s a true feat of extreme athleticism that most of us can only dream of. But my words don’t do it justice. Take a look for yourself.
