Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Yesterday, before the A’s and Tigers played to decide who was coming here, the order was up in the air. “We’re undecided,’’ said Sox manager John Farrell. “We’ll get a better read on it once we get through (last night) and plan for who we’re going to play.” The order against the Rays in the Division Series was Lester, John Lackey, Clay Buchholz and Jake Peavy. The big decision in the ALCS appears to be who pitches in Games 2 and 3. Lackey’s strong home-road splits — unlike Arroyo, he’s pitched much better at Fenway — played into the club’s decision to start him second at Fenway against the Rays over Buchholz, whose ceiling on most nights is higher than any of the four. In a seven-game series, however, how the first three slots get doled out involves even more variables than where the team is playing. The opposing lineup, for example, is important, and so is a starter’s track record against that lineup, although a smaller sample size is in play. Another consideration is that the No. 2 starter will pitch two games at Fenway. The No. 3 starter, opening on the road, would be the Game 7 starter back home at Fenway. Herald: It's Jon Lester, then who? So here it is folks; the matchup we have anticipated since well before the playoffs. Boston vs. Detroit.  Clearly, Jon Lester will be the Game 1 starter tomorrow night at Fenway Park. However, there is a worthy debate ongoing, mainly due to Farrell holding back an announcement, as to who the starter of Games 2 and 3 will be. Aren't we overthinking it a little here? Didn't the ALDS rotation of Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, and Peavy work out okay? I love Lackey pitching Game 2 home in Fenway Park. He needs to put the finishing touches on his "comeback" (cough cough, not fat anymore) tour. Lack's going to be as motivated as any in front of the homecrowd. But honestly, I won't be bent out of shape if Farrell opts for Buchholz.  But let's just keep the starter's rest schedule as it is. Don't screw around.
