New York Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler turned in a nice performance Sunday afternoon against the Sacremento River Cats.  The 23-year-old righty entered Sunday’s affair sporting a 1-1 record with a 4.80 ERA for the Las Vegas 51′s of the Pacific Coast League.  Most alarming to some followers was the fact that heading into today’s contest Wheeler had walked 16 batters in just 30 innings pitched, but today he continued to right the ship, walking just one batter through six scoreless frames. https://twitter.com/AdamRubinESPN/status/331169690128904192 https://twitter.com/AnthonyDiComo/status/331169909725876225 Over his last two outings Wheeler has pitched 12 2/3 innings while giving up just 1 run on 8 hits and only 2 walks. Photo by Michael G. Baron My guess is that if he can continue to show the command he’s demonstrated in his past two outings, a call up won’t be far off, especially when you consider the struggles New York has had in losing seven of their last nine games.  Still, management has demonstrated patience and is committed to do whatever is best for Wheeler’s long term progress and it’s hard to argue with that approach given where things appear to be heading this season.
