NHL - The Last Great Brawl - Set Two Single-Game NHL Records! Video included 1 of 3

419 PENALTY minutes!

213 for the Philadelphia Flyers.

BOTH are single-game NHL records.

It took about 15 minutes to play the last TWO minutes of the 3rd period.

You have to go to the actual article to see the other 2 videos of this, as I could only embed 1 and didn't want to create three posts.

The last fight at faceoff in the third video is my favorite as I don't think anyone thought there could possibly be another fight - how many players were actually left?

As much as I loved the Jonathan Roy Goalie fight, this article reminded me of the jaw dropping 03/05/2004 Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators in Philly.

By the way, thebroadstreeblog.com - if you see this, love the new look!

Was anyone there for this game? I wish.

It was a great game and a fun brawl. The PIM totals are badly inflated, though. The refs went into panic mode and started handing out misconducts like halloween candy -- Spezza wound up with 35 minutes for his five-second slap fight.
Definitely great entertainment, but sort of odd for this to be the record holder when you compare it to some of the other great Flyers brawls back in the day.

I agree with the "odd for this to be the record holder when you compare it to some of the great Flyers brawls back in the day."

I would love to find a great highlight reel from the Broad Street Bully days of the 70's and some left over in early 80's.

I was there for this game. I remember it like it was yesterday, it's one of those games that I'll never forget. It's like those that were at the Eagles game when Santa was pelted with snowballs, they'll never forget being at that game.

Coming into this game, there was some bad blood between these two teams. The officials tried to stop any fights earlier in the game, which actually made matters worse because tempers kept flaring. You're right smcindoe, the refs went into panic mode and the only way they could try to restore order was to hand out large amounts of misconduct penalties. But, at that point, there wasn't much they could do to restore order. Another reason why I think the number of penalty minutes would be greater than the brawls from the Broad Street Bully days has to do penalties for rough stuff like this that didn't exist back then.

Man that was a classic. It was right up there for me with the Wings - Av's fights... Nice, thanks for the post.
