The medical and police examinations on the car accident that killed Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock just dropped. And, as most previous sources seemed to indicate, Hancock was intoxicated at the time of the fatal crash. He was also talking on his cell phone and marijuana was found in his car.Medical examiner Michael Graham said at a news conference Friday that the 29-year-old reliever was dead "within seconds" from head injuries in the crash early Sunday on Interstate 64 in St. Louis. His vehicle hit the back of a tow truck parked on the highway to assist a driver from a previous accident. The report also indicated he didn't have his seat belt on, but that it would not have saved him from death had it been fastened. If nothing else, this at least answers a few of the lingering questions about the crash. Although, for those close to Hancock, I'm sure it probably doesn't make them feel any better about it.
"There is nothing at all that could have been done for him," Graham said.
Hancock's blood-alcohol level was 0.157, nearly twice Missouri's legal limit of 0.08, Graham said.
Police Chief Joe Mokwa said 8.55 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana were found in the rented Ford Explorer. Toxicology tests to determine if drugs were in his system had not been completed.

When is the federal government going to do something to improve the safety when a vehicle hits the back of a flatbed tow truck. I have seen many, many, many, times where these types of fatalitys have occoured with these types of trucks. You go under the flatbed and then the flatbed will decapitate you.
The government NEEDS to look into this.

You're a moron, David. The fact that he was intoxicated and was in possesssion of illegal substances outweighs your concern for people who have a propensity for running into stationary objects. While still a tragedy, the reality of the situation is that drunk drivers are anything but sympathy figures. Perhaps what the government really needs to look into is the psychological make-up of simpletons such as yourself who tend to stray so widely from the topic at hand.

I couldn't believe the first post either. Drunk people ususally don't think that they are drunk when they get behind the wheel and drive. That is why so many DIE!

It is only going to make the worsen the pain of Josh Hancock's family that was drunk and stoned when he crashed his vehicle the night he died.

And there is an additional story that he was on the phone with a women, discussing about going to meet her for "drinks" at the time of the accident. Sorry for the family, but thank God the operator of the tow truck and the person who was in the disabled car didn't get killed also. Heard also the
Cards are planning on banning drinking in the clubhouse. I'm not quite sure how this played in Hancock's tragedy unless he was drinking also there on perhaps that day or in the past. Maybe someone else may know.

This is a tradegy for his family and friends and team mates. It is sad to hear that he had so much to live for in the coming years and yet the message of drinking and driving still doesnt register.
With this being Cinco De mayo weekend - I hope there are people who will give some thought about this young mans life as well as their own and not drink too much and try to drive home or where ever. It just isn't worth your life and future.
Call a cab, get a designated driver, drink at home, etc. There are numerous options instead of this.
Maybe it will be a wake up call to sports team members and fans all over. May God comfort those who have to live with this tradegy and sadness. Rest in peace Josh.

Everybody has done something really stupid in their lives. When we do something dumb and realize we shouldn't have gotten away with it, we call it a "wake-up call." Sadly, Mr. Hancock is never going to wake up.
Listen to #6. Be honest with yourself not just today, but any time you go out partying. If you're in no condition to drive, DON'T GET BEHIND THE WHEEL! It's better to use a DD than to be DOA.

WHAT does cinco de mayo have to do with this. THIS IS AMERICA NOT MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! although we are letting them take our country and RUIN it because they are ILLEGAL..DISHONEST...MILKING THE SYSTEM and sending MILLIONS of dollars to Mexico so when they are tired of working they can go back to Mexico and relax while AMERICA pays the consequence!!! I could care LESS about their holidays! I get sick of seeing hundreds of them everyday ruining our country..they are dirty, they lie, they use fake everything and they lie lie lie. so do not tie THEIR holiday into this.

its a shame that most famous people sports or movie stars think they are invinsible that nothin can happen to them. if the recieve the same punishment as any normal person would get maybe things would be different. nobody is above the law, or at least shouldnt be.

me -
So I guess a free trip to Cancun for a little "sun and fun" on me would be out of the question, huh? Yeah, it sure is dirty down there, and everyone lies their tails off at every little "ruined" resort/spa. What is our world coming to after all? I'm surprised Mexico still remains one of the most popular foreign vacation and spring break countries/destinations for immaculate Americans of unimpeachable integrity! I mean, really, who would've thought that sooooo many Americans would be able to look beyond the filth, dishonesty and utter disregard for all things civil and courteous down in "Cinco De Mayo-ville?"
Seriously, to paraphrase, have a Corona and a smile on me, me. (And don't try to drive afterwards, OK?)

PS ANd "me" wouldn't happen to be a pseudonym for Pat Buchannan, would it? Or maybe it stands for "mexican enemy." It sure would be a good fit.
