Trade proposal: Vancouver & Carolina

Just thinking, with Carolina's recent woes... might they be looking to make a move?

To Vancouver:

Eric Cole (tough scoring forward, great friend of Willie Mitchell)
4MIL per season

To Carolina:

Luc Bourdon (great skating, tough young Dman - with Edler's emergence and Krajicek's continued strong play I think we can move him)
Cory Schneider (good young goalie prospect who, as we all know, won't see much playing time in Vancouver for the next 6 - 8 years if Luongo resigns)

------------------------------------

What do you think it would take to get Cole and / or, do you think he would be a good fit?

Problem is that doesn't help Carolina NOW which is what they would want the most

Cole has also had some very serious injury problems over the past few years.

Agreed. I'd love Cole on this team, but if we want Carolina to consider trading him, we'd likely be seeing one of our top defensemen going back (like Bieksa or Ohlund).

I don't see them having much interest in Schneider... Ward is young and will be in goal for them longterm... don't see why they'd give much asset value to a goalie prospect at this stage.

Cole's salary will also be difficult to fit... he's got one more year left on his deal and is a $4mill cap hit... I'd also be a little weary of his injury history... he recently had a major career threatening injury, and has missed time again this season due to injury...

given everything, this isn't a trade that I would make from the canucks POV, but I also don't see enough incentive for the Canes to make a move like this.

Isn't he usually LW? Who do we play him with? We have enough LWs on the team as it is :/

Erik Cole was a promising player until he had those two spinal injuries. I'd stay away.

I would try and see if a Bourdon+pick for Justin Williams would work. Then again Williams' production is down. Maybe throw the same package at Philly for Carter.

How about Bourdon for Andrew Ladd. Does not really help either team now but would help both teams down the road.

I wouldn't do it because I am wary of Ladd ever been a top six forward in this league. I think he will be an excellent third line player, maybe occasional second line minutes, but not exactly what we need - especially at this point in time.

I'd rather not give up the 2 blue chip assets the Canucks have for a fragile forward.

Which is really a shame, though.. A healthy Erik Cole would be exactly what this team needs.

i pass. Cole is actually turning 30 real soon, Bourdon's career is just about to start plus Cole is injury prone, kinda like Salo.

Cam Ward is only two years older than Schneider and unfortunatly any trade Nonis makes to improve the Top-6 will likely include him. Bourdon alone might not be enough to get Cole at this point which would mean we might have to trade Krajicek or Bieksa.
Bieksa would likely be enough given his style of play (and reputation after last season) and Krajicek might as well if they actually bothered to watch him play.

I'm not totally convinced Cole has recovered fully although if he has he might be worth it.

I posted this on the Hurricane sight and it got mixed response with someone saying they would take Krajieck instead of Bourdon.

Pass, although I wouldn't mind trying to acquire Williams

I have no qualms with trading off Bieksa. As Nick Kypreos has noted on the 'Stand Up Guy' segment, the Canucks are a completely different team without him.

I've long advocated trying to trade for Williams or Cole with Bieksa/Miller. Or Bieksa/McIver.

If I were Nonis, I would take this trade and run. Not giving up any regulars for one of the premier power forwards in the business. Canucks dont really need Bourdon with all the depth they have at defense. Niether do they need Schnieder, with Luongo manning the nets. Guys you cant fault someone for being injury prone when someone cross checks you in the back of the neck and breaks it. Thats just nonesense.
On the other hand, Carolina would never do this trade.
