With WrestleMania just weeks away, the show underwent some big changes in the last two days. One of the matches will be changed, while a major storyline was twisted. It looks as if the WWE aren’t in a bubble after all.
I have written extensively for two weeks about the Floyd Mayweather disaster leading up to WrestleMania. After a great angle at No Way Out, the WWE were on the verge of blowing their $20 million investment. Floyd Mayweather has been bombing as a babyface and the angle was sinking faster by the week. Well, the WWE became proactive with the angle and officially turned both sides of the match.
On Monday Night Raw, the Big Show took his new role as pro wrestling’s hero. Show, now representing the fans, the WWE, and professional wrestling will bring his new attitude to WrestleMania. Floyd Mayweather left Monday Night Raw as pro wrestling’s biggest enemy, looking to put his sport on the top of the sports entertainment map. The switch was inevitable after weeks of booing for Mayweather in the build up to WrestleMania.
In what may be even bigger news in the long run, WWE superstar Jeff Hardy has been suspended for 60 days. Hardy’s suspension comes after violating the WWE’s Wellness Policy for a second time. The suspension comes at the worst possible time for Hardy. Any chances of Hardy seeing the WWE title in the next two years are probably over.
Hardy’s drug problems are well documented throughout his career. Hardy left the WWE several years ago after he was given an ultimatum to clean up by the WWE. Instead of cleaning up, Hardy opted to quit and join Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling. Hardy’s problems followed him into TNA. Hardy no-showed several big shows for TNA and never seemed to have the dedication in the ring that he had in the WWE.
Hardy returned to the WWW two years ago and has been described as a model employee. Hardy’s hard work eventually earned him the confidence and trust of management. Hardy was the biggest benefactor of John Cena’s October injury. Hardy was thrust in the main-babyface position and was a hit with the fans. Hardy’s push included wins over Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
Hardy’s biggest career highlight was at the 2008 Royal Rumble. Hardy challenged for the WWE title and was featured in the WWE title for the first-time in his career. Many fans felt disappointed and letdown that Hardy left the Royal Rumble without the belt. Rumors circulated going into the Rumble that Hardy would lose, win Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, challenge, and get his WWE title run later in the year. Those plans have changed.
The suspension takes Hardy out of WrestleMania. Hardy dropped the Intercontinental title to Chris Jericho Monday night before departing for 60 days. The suspension puts the WWE between a rock and a hard place. It is likely that it will be a long time before the WWE trusts Hardy again with a big spot. However, the fans love him and it would be hard for the WWE to reject the fans their hero when he returns.
It is a disappointing day for people like me who have been rooting for Jeff since he came back to the WWE. Jeff let a lot of people down with this suspension. For his own health and wellbeing, I hope he can get it back together in 60 days whether that includes wrestling or not.

Headlocks & Eye Gouges - Former NWA World Tag Team Champions, Jack and Jerry Brisco will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Don’t expect the Rock at WrestleMania. The Rock will be flying out as soon as the ceremony is over to continue filming of his new movie, “Witch Mountain.”
CM Punk will return to the Money in the Bank match at this year’s WrestleMania. ECW Champion, Chavo Guerrero will defend the ECW title at WrestleMania against the winner of an inter-brand battle royal.
Batista vs. Umaga has been added to WrestleMania.
There are rumors of adding a legends battle royal to WrestleMania, similar to the match that the Iron Sheik won in 2001.
Ric Flair will take on WWE World Champion, Edge and the Edge-heads on SmackDown in a Steel Cage Match.
Next week on Raw, Randy Orton and John Cena are scheduled to team together and take on the entire Raw roster. Huh?
