Lunch Time Notes: Schilling on 60-day DL, Colon to start vs Rays

Schilling on the DL

It's official. The Red Sox put Curt Schilling on the 60-day diabled list today. It will be interesting to see if the Sox eventually decide to have Schill go under the knife, but either way, he won't be ready until September (if ever) and right now they've got bigger fish to fry...

Tony Maz steals my line...

The Herald's Tony Maz reports that Francona plans to sit down and chat with Coco today:

“We plan on sitting down with him (today) and see where he is so we can set up a plan for the next few days.”

Tony then goes on to say this:

"The bottom line? "

"There is the increasing probability that Crisp will be with the Red Sox to at least start the season, though the club must get the player on the field first. Crisp has just four official at-bats so far this spring and hasn’t played for some time due to a groin injury."

"Yesterday, Francona indicated that Crisp would not play for at least the next couple of days. "

I'm counting that as an official plug for the blog... now I wait for the page hits to pile up...

Tony also points out how quickly we went from debating a 6-man rotation this winter to wondering if Bartolo Colon will be ready by April... how quickly things change.

Bartolo Colon will take the mound today against the Rays. Doug Mirabelli was suppsed to catch to day, but he's been scratched. Extra Bases says their could be news on the way...

Here's the lineup:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Ramirez, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Sean Casey, 1B
8. Dusty Brown, C
9. Alex Cora, SS

P -- Bartolo Colon
