Another Dubai Upset - Andy Roddick Knocks Off Rafael Nadal
It wasn’t quite the same as Andy Murray beating Roger Federer in the first round, but Andy Roddick did score a fairly significant upset victory by beating Rafael Nadal to reach the semis of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
“I knew I was going to hit it well, from the first point. I kind of let it fly, and that’s what it took tonight,” Roddick said of his impressive 7-6(5), 6-2 victory. “Anything less than that and I wasn’t going to win.”
Roddick will be joined in the semis by Nikolay Davydenko, who beat the aforementioned Mr. Murray 7-5, 6-4, as well as Feliciano Lopez and the winner of Thursday’s Novak Djokovic-Igor Andreev match.
And the best news for Roddick? He won’t have to face Federer.
