Okay. Not to be presumptuous or anything, but the #2 seed (duke), the #3 seed (xavier), and the number #5 seed (drake) all suck pretty bad. I didn’t even see UConn play (which I’m an ass for, considering I currently attend the team they just beat, USD), but maybe they suck too?
I seriously think Texas A & M is going to be UCLA’s hardest game until the Final 4. I’m sure you all know that Kevin Love was the #1 Center in the country coming out of high school last year. Do you know who #2 was?
I do. He goes to A & M. And He’s a beast inside.
Apparently, A & M’s whole team is taller than 6′3. UCLA, with the exception of Collison who is around 6′1 I think, also fits that bill. They’re a big, bruising physical team.
This is was my favorite quote of last night, by Howland. A reporter was asking him why Collison was diving for loose balls when UCLA was up by 30. Howland’s answer? Because diving for loose balls, prevents injuries:
I thought it was a great play. What I always preach to our guys is, when you don’t get on the floor, and you see it happen all the time when you follow this game, when you don’t dive on the floor, that’s when you get your knees taken out and you end up with an ACL, by diving on the floor. He actually avoided any kind of injury potential, but that was great. He dove. We got the ball. Then there was a great finish at the other end where I think there was a pass for a layup. And that was really, really nice teamwork and good hustle started by Darren’s hustle.
What a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant man. Did you know Ben Howland, in his entire history as a head coach, has only been upset in the tournament once? [UPDATE: Technically, it was twice because UCLA was a #2 seed and Florida was a #3 seed. But Florida really shouldn't have been a #3 seed and practically the same exact team was the #1 overall seed the very next year]And that was when Pittsburgh was a 2 seed and Marquette was a 3 seed. And thats when Marquette had some dude named Dwyane Wade.
Also, Dohn seems pretty pissed that Howland decieved the media about whether or not Luc was going to get the start.
Dohn has balls for writing that. You have to admit that. He’s not a lapdog, thats for sure.
When I read that, I realized that, without question, we have the best basketball coach in America. Seriously, Howland’s little ruse probably decreased UCLA’s chance of losing from 1/1000 to 1/1050. Most coaches would say eh, screw it, I’ll take 1/1000. But Ben Howland will always go that extra mile. Some may argue about whether Howland is the best coach in America, but can anyone deny that he’s the hardest working one? That story sealed it for me.
More lata.

what was florida ranked when they beat us the first time in the tourney? I thought they were a 3seed and we were a 2 seed? Would that be considered an upset?

I hate you.
You’re absolutely right…Florida was a #3.
but come on. It was Florida! They should have been a #1.
You’re still right. I shall make amends.
