What is Failing in Sports?

I think this discussion was started in a different thread about Brock Lesnar, he left the WWE, then chose not got to NFL Europe for money reasons, but is he failure because he didn't left without having much success.

Then I have another example, I know a guy who played minor league baseball, had a chance to go AA but then pulled out because the money good enough, is he a failure?

But what exactly is failing in sports?

Re: What is Failing in Sports?

People have to do what is best for them and their families. Choosing not to go to Double-A in MiLB because the pay isn't good is not failing IMO.

Failing in sports is when you go out on the field/court/ice and purposefully don't give 100%.

As long as you try, you can't say you failed. Sure, you may miss a shot/pitch but that's just not executing.

Re: What is Failing in Sports?

i think the simple answer is that people are not playing the game for the love of the game anymore and no one really remembers what it is like to just play the game for playing the game...

i mean players will go from being a starter in one team to being a second string or back up guy in another just for more money (Drew Bennett)...people will spend 3 years in the free agency market until they get a contract they want becuase they wont get enough money(almost JaMarcus Russell)...sports stars will prefer to endorse Used Diapers than spend time training for their respective competitions because the endorsements will mean more money (Anna Kournacova)

because people are getting HUGE contracts to play sports they always want more money if they can get it, forget WHERE they are playing or if they will ever play again, people effectively see green whenever it comes to sports.

thats why im sure 99.9% of guys coming out of the draft would prefer to play for a team like the Dolphins who almost lost every game last season, but get a 7 figure salary, than play for the Pats or Colts and get less money but are in with more of a chance of winning a super bowl
