Siena's 11-point burst buries No. 20 Stanford

ALBANY, N.Y. — Josh Duell scored 16 points Saturday to lead Siena over No. 20 Stanford 79-67, a win reminiscent of the Saints' stunning victory over the Cardinal in the 1989 NCAA tournament.
Alex Franklin had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Siena, and Kenny Hasbrouck added 12 points in a rare meeting between the teams.
In 1989, the 14th-seeded Siena squad knocked No. 3-seed Stanford out of the NCAA tournament in the first round with an 80-78 win.
Edwin Ubiles scored 11 points for the Saints (2-2). Trailing by one midway through the second half, Siena broke the game open with an 11-0 run, including three straight three-pointers, two by Duell and the other from Tay Fisher to make it 56-46.
Kenny Brown had 12 points for Stanford (4-1).
The Saints, up by seven with eight minutes left in the first half, eventually took a 33-31 lead into the break. The game featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.
● No. 6 Louisville 104, Hartford 69: In Louisville, Ky., Terrence Williams recorded the third triple-double in Louisville history with 14 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds in the Cardinals' season opener.
● No. 11 Oregon 85, Portland 61: In Portland, Malik Hairston scored 24 points, and the Ducks improved to 4-0. Maarty Leunen added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Oregon.
● No. 14 Gonzaga 84, UC-Riverside 48: In Spokane, Wash., freshman Austin Daye scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures, and Gonzaga routed UC-Riverside.
● No. 15 Texas A&M 85, Ouachita 59: In College Station, Texas, Bryan Davis scored 15 points, and freshman DeAndre Jordan had 12 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double to lead Texas A&M.
● No. 22 Kansas State 77, Western Illinois 64: In Manhattan, Kan., freshman Michael Beasley scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half, and had 22 rebounds for KSU.
● No. 23 S. Illinois 88, N. Illinois 68: In Carbondale, Ill., Bryan Mullins had 15 of his 16 points in the first half to help Southern Illinois rout Northern Illinois in the Salukis' season opener.
● No. 25 Butler 60, Evansville 47: In Evansville, Ind., A.J. Graves scored 22 points to lead Butler.

● USC 85, South Carolina 75: In Columbia, S.C., O.J. Mayo scored 29 points, but the freshman phenom got plenty of help from Daniel Hackett, who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Trojans.
● Alaska 62, Oregon State 60: In Fairbanks, Alaska, Keven Campbell scored a put-back with 1:36 remaining and made a crucial free throw in the final seconds for Division II Alaska.
Northern Arizona
FLAGSTAFF — Kyle Landry tied his career high with 23 points, and also grabbed 14 rebounds as Northern Arizona beat Missouri-Kansas City 77-62 Saturday.
UMKC will play at Arizona on Monday night.
Nate Geiser added 14 points, and Josh Wilson had 10 for the Lumberjacks (2-1), who led 45-27 at halftime and coasted from there.
Landry hit 8 of 10 shots and was 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.
Dane Brumagin scored 27 points for UMKC (1-2) while Brent Stephens added 17.
