Infielder Wes Helms has a roster spot for the moment.
The Phillies on Friday sent righthander J.D. Durbin, infielder Ray Olmedo and outfielder Chris Snelling to triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Meanwhile, Olmedo refused the assignment to the minors and has become a free agent.
They also claimed righthander Tim Lahey off waivers from the Cubs. Barring another move before Monday’s season opener against Washington, Lahey and Helms will begin the season on the 25-man roster.
Originally drafted in 2004 as a catcher by the Twins, the 26-year-old Lahey went 8-4 with 14 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 52 games in double-A and triple-A last season.
In 43 at-bats this spring, Helms is hitting .256 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Phillies also signed veteran infielder Chris Woodward to a minor-league contract. Woodward, 31, hit .393 in 15 games with the Yankees this spring.
Drafted by Toronto in 1994, Woodward spent his first six seasons with the Blue Jays. He spent two seasons with the Mets before joining the Braves last season, when he hit .199 with a home run and eight RBIs in 92 games.
