SENS SWEPT

April 16, 2008, 9:35 PM ET [928 Comments]
Sidney Crosby's empty netter with 3.1 seconds left sends the Senators home for the Summer.

These young Pens are mature beyond their years, and they are poised to make a run here in the Playoffs.

The Pens forwards gave the Ottawa D fits from the drop of the first puck. Malkin, Sykora, Malone, Staal, Hossa gave the Pens primary scoring. Gary Freakin Roberts called out the entire Sens team in Game 1, and no one responded. Kudos to the Pens D for allowing 6 goals against to the Sens.

The Sens could never get their offense in gear. Spezza and Heatley were ineffecticve, and there was little, if any secondary scoring from Vermette, et al.

The Sens PK was crippled due to injuries to Alfredsson, Fisher, and Kelly.

The Pens PP were opportunistic.

In the end, the Pens were the better team in all four key areas: goaltending, offense, defense, and special teams.

Take a good long look at the Sens as they leave the ice. There will be changes to the on-ice squad in the off season, namely Wade Redden leaving as UFA on 7/1.

What becomes of Ray Emery? Bryan Murray?
