Raider X predicts the entire Oakland Raider draft day treasure haul

In his earlier mock draft, that denizen of the Dark Side Raider X promised to go over the expectations for the entire Oakland Raiders’ draft day haul. He did not acquire Chad Johnson, but did trade away a player to reclaim two of the lost rounds. Once again, Chris Long becomes a Raiders despite Don Banks’s false rumor mongering. Without further ado, I’ll turn this over to X.

The Raiders draft day treasure chest

by Raider X

Special to Thoughts from the Dark Side

1 - Pick 4 - DE Chris Long Virginia - This should be a no brainer, Long fills the position opposite of Derrick Burgess. I know this is a scary word to Raider fans but Long is the safest pick in the draft and the only player in the top 4 that would be taken higher than a 2007 Counterpart *Gaines Adams*.

Potential Trade - The Raiders trade CB Fabian Washington to New Orelans for 3rd and 5th round picks.

3rd Round - Pick 76 - Xavier Adibi LB Virginia Tech -The Raiders need another young, active LB to finish their core with Morrison, Howard and now Adibi. Adibi is big enough, strong enough and athletic enough to hold up behind the Raiders line.

4th Round - Pick 104 - Dexter Jackson WR Appalachin St - Raiders get an explosive but small return man, explosive WR to open up for the bigger guys. Was a key cog in the historical upset of Michigan.

5th Round - Pick 178 - Tony Hill OT Texas - the Raiders get an athletic LT tackle prospect from a big school like Texas. I have no clue honestly why this guy is rated so low. Think Jason Peters from the Bills. Former TE prospect turned LT.

6th Round - Pick 169 - Tim Hightower RB Richmond - Seems like an Al Davis type, small college late roud, east coast type pick. Has decent size and speed that the Raiders look for.

7th Round - Pick 213 - Brian Witherspoon CB Stillman - Al has the need… the need for speed. He also needs to replace Chris Carr, though some *Carr himself* would say he is irreplaceable.

I know I might be lucky to get one or two picks right but I wanted to throw out some ideas for you all to think about.

If we could get two picks for Washington, that would be amazing. I like most of the picks, although I would like a run stuffing DT in there some where.

Take C. Long and since we’re talking later round picks. Make the trade with Washington for a 3d and 5th. Find out where Dennis Dixon is predicted and use one of them on him. Need to improve line play.

Dark Side, I’ve had similar thoughts about a trade for Washington for a third rounder, but I think we’re looking at more (possibly Route) to get a 4th-fifth. Could the Michigan or LSU receiver justify any of these scenarios if they present themselves?

Chris Long will be perfect, but if Dorsey were still there, he would be the better option. I like Dexter Jackson in the THIRD round, and he would be an ideal slot guy to have.

mcfadden is the only pick who would INSTANTLY upgrade the raiders to playoff contenders. not saying anything bad about howie jr or anyone else but mcfadden will and should be the pick if he’s there..

I’m disgusted this morning, I just read so much raider hating crap form many different sources. Sal palantinio has som BS about hall being the most over rated corner in recent history. Can you believe this fool is writing a “best selling” book about overrated and underrated players. I might as well write a “best seller” about the pratfalls of time travel or unicorn dna!!! Then some dip Sh!T calling himself Ron wolf, says Al davis diddnt draft marcus tim brown or terry mc daniel! he says ron wolf did. Now you all know as well as i do that Al Davis always takes a back seat when it come to personel dicisions. Morons!

I like all of these exept if we could somehow trade LaMont Jordan and Fabian Washingto for a fifth and a second rounder thaat would likely be a better deal.

no one will give us anything for Lamont Jordan, but man i would love to see the Raiders take Xavier Adibi that would be awesome.

While I like Hightower, I don’t see the Raiders drafting a running back. I doubt a corner gets drafted either.

Good post. Love the Adibi pick.

Drew Rosenhaus is again getting the word out that, Chad Johnson wants to be traded.

    Trade Walker for Johnson,
    Swap 1st’s,
    select K.Rivers at #9.

If Long is available, he’ll certainly be ours. Same goes for Dorsey if he is there at 4. Otherwise, Al will trade down and select Ellis while picking up a number 2. In this case, look for a WR at 2 (a. Doucett, b. Manningham) and an additional trade into the 3rd to select Adibi. We will take Bruce Davis in 6 (possibly trade up to 5 for this pick). With our 2 7’s we’ll first take Cables pick of remaining OL and the fastest receiver left with the last.

    Remember me after next weekend.

  16. NCRaider says:

    April 20th, 2008 at 9:40 am

I should have noted in my last post, if we trade for Johnson, we won’t take a receiver in 2, but pick Jackson at a later point with an additional pick.

Seattle, you cannot trade a player in the first year of his deal in the NFL. If the Raiders were to trade a WR, it would have to be someone who was with the team last year.

    True X,
I just have so little faith in Walker, ( I hope I’m wrong) I was just throwing out my dream scenario. I know Cincinnati is looking to trade up to grab one of the top two DTs.
If I had to bet my house on it right now, I would say the Raiders take C.Long at #4, if no trade is made.

Something tells me that Al Davis is also targetting Chris Johnson the RB who ran a 4.24
He would be a good return man on ST

    X,

If you get 2 of these picks right, then you deserve credit. This has to be one of the hardest things to do. Matter of fact predicting the Raiders draft has to be the hardest in the league. We will see……

I would love to see Long go to the bay area, and not just because his dad played there. I think the Raiders made some big strides in brining in some defensive talent, and Long will only help in that case. McFadden would help Jamarcus Russell out, but Justin Fargas is a good back and needs time to continue as he establishing himself in the Oakland backfield.

Bruce Davis Jr. after we draft Chris Long.

Davis had 29 sacks in 28 games, 6.5 more than Vernon Slowston. He also forced more turnovers in his career.

Plus his dad was a Champion Raider, and he pass rushed in the PAC ten, a true passing conference.

All I can see that Gholston has going for him is that he got to the QB against Jake Long and both guys are repped by the same agency. Collusion?

Davis is moving way up the boards. He was initially being projected rd 6 and now people are saying round 4 so the team(entire draft market) might consider him worth a third rounder.

    Spenc,

I average 2 or more correct picks a year (on the Raiders, only), though I agree how tough it is to predict Al. Over the past few years I called Russell (I know, too easy), Moses (didn’t see them releasing him), Bush, Huff, Bing, Washington, Morrison, Gallery, Brayton, Hoag, N Harris, D Jolley, Rambo, Porter, Janikowski, & Lechler. First year I ever tried I got Woodson right. I do concede many of the above were not selected with the picks I thought. For instance, Porter and Janikowski went in the opposite at 1 and 2. Al is really pretty easy to read if you pay attention to what he does prior to the draft, for at least one or 2 people.

    Mr Murder,

That’s what I screaming in my earlier post. I am more positive of Bruce Davis being a Raider than Long, because Long is less available. I doubt we get both but we will have one or the other. We could use Davis as competition at OLB which is really what I expect. I also have us nabbing Lofton at LB rather than Adibi, but I’d settle for either.

Chris Long, Bruce Davis, McFadden, and Chris Johnson do have Al written all over them. The way I see it this year is Long is #1, Dorsey #2, McFadden #3 and if they go 1, 2, 3, they’ll try a different route trading Ryan at 4 to Baltimore where they select Ellis and continue with my last post. I’d also like to swap Chris Johnson for the receiver picked earlier. Didn’t think of him as a returner. You’ll remember me after draft day.

    Go make some noise, Al!!!

I love the C.Long and Tony Hills pick!!
In the 3rd i would pick Marcus Harrison (run stopping DT)
in the 4th Mike Pollack or Steve Justice!!
I doubt the rb and cb picks…i would select a SLB in the 6th and Davone Bess in the 7th!!

Round 1. Dorsey, Long, trade down, McFadden in that order.
Round 3. Carl Nicks, Mike Pollack, Jordy Nelson
Round 4. Marcus Harrison, Ali Highsmith, Dexter jackson
Round 5. Tony Hills, Tommy Blake
Round 6. Marcus Monk, Jacob Hester
    Round 7. Jake Igoudaouortusdfshdfguiohreg

We need Olineman b4 the 5th round. Gotta protect Jamarcus, you know they’re gonna be coming after him, don’t want another Aaron Brooks/Andrew Walter situation. No way Chris Long is there at 4, St. Louis is gonna snatch him up. The Raiders did meet w/ Manningham which is odd because the others they met w/ are all top guys (CLong, JLong, Dorsey, Gholston) so you figure Al thinks he can move into a spot where he can get a Manningham caliber guy. Also there was a proposed C Johnson trade so that can change everything.

Great Job, You know I really think Fabian or Routt have a better chance at winding up at Dallas or New England.
