The law of averages

When four pitchers (Chad Billingsley, Chan Ho Park, Jonathon Broxton and Joe Beimel) combine for one earned run, six hits and 14 strikeouts, it's rightfully assumed that a win will follow. Of course, when 11 batters combine for five hits, it's rightfully assumed that a loss will follow.  And since the Dodgers fit the bill on both descriptions, it's rightfully assumed that, as the saying goes, something has to give.  In this particular case, "giving" came in the form of a 1-0 loss against the Padres.  Less than 24 hours removed from Saturday night's 13-hit/11-run bonanza, the Dodger bats went cold again, scrounging up a scant five hits.  Greg Maddux's five innings of two-hit/two-strikeout shutout ball on the cusp of his 42nd birthday will likely attract the lion share of headlines, but those Friar hurlers following him did an equally impressive job shutting down their Blue hosts.  And while Andruw Jones' contributions to a box score featuring across-the-board silence can't rightfully catch blame for the loss, those keeping watch on his batting average will likely take no comfort in its .100 status.

As a Jones... I am leading the pack to ban him from our ranks.

Dude, admit it, call Jenny Craig, Dr. Phil, Valerie Bertinelli, even Richard Simmons... move on. Get you some of those special TV Dinners.

As bad as Andruw's average is, it is still better than BobbleNed's decisionmaking record as GM.

Play Matt Kemp!

Is it just me or is nobody concerned about Andruw's lack of effort or his bad attitude? He said "I don't have to prove the fans nothin" which tells me this is just another Boras client who cares nothing about the game... only $. At this point Aryan's favorite player Repko would be 2x's better and about half of the weight, (205 avg 1 HR and 4 RBI's which sure beats a 105 avg 0 HR and 1 RBI. Last time i checked Boras had all the big names who under-perform and don't care about anything but the $ (1 notable exception on performance...Pay-Rod). Andruw shows up overweight blaming his lack of batting on being too light which is a sham. At least Mo Vaughn and Fielder when that big had a thing called wrist speed to get the bat around their rotund bodies. Maybe we should tie either a twinky or some $ to the balls so he might be inclined to see the pitches. I think Torre needs to bench Andruw more so than Pierre at this point, at least Pierre has RBIs and an average above the Mendoza line and wants to play.

WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK IM CRAZY FOR WANTING JASON REPKO IN THE LINEUP?

I mean seriously people.....this guy has hit over .300, has power, has speed, can play defense, and is a slightly better version of Andre Eithier......EVen Kevin Kennedy said once that this guy has what it takes to be a starter

And yet some people act like hes a 4th outfielder?

Its amazing how im one of the few people that have noticed how good this guy has done for the past COUGH COUGH 4 YEARS!.......4 YEARS!........i mean for those of u who say he gets injured or whatever, well he hasnt been injured for 4 years.......the problem mangement doesnt give this guy a consistnet chance to play (WHICH IS WHAT THEY SEEM TO DO WITH ALOT OF YOUNG PLAYERS IN THE PAST & PRESENT - EXAMPLE - MATT KEMP)

I love how some people say hes doing bad right now in the minors as if that just overlapps all his talent and whats he proven the last 4 years

James Loney did bad last year when he went to Triple A last year.......does that mean he didnt belong in the Dodgers starting lineup?

proven?!?!? He's hit .232 at the major league level! His career OPS is .684. Dude, Ethier's a career .295 hitter, with an .821 OPS (.750 tends to be about the major league average for OPS, by the way). The two are not even comparable.

I love Repko's hustle too, but bro, you really make no sense with these 'arguments.'

And besides, it's been widely noted that you ARE Jason Repko. Keep hustilin' and tryin', kid; playing in the minors sure beats workin' for a livin'!

Aryan i agree with you about Repko and that he is a good player, and could be on the "will-run-through-a-wall-team" but well need to know... are you really Jason Repko?

REPKO SUCKS!

Really, I just wanted to post that to see how pissed off Aryan/Repko gets. I actually kind of like the guy. Gold-glove caliber defense, AMAZING throwing arm, decent hitting at best. Yes, he does get injured alot. he missed all of last year and about half of 2006 (if I remember correctly) to leg injuries. 2005 he started the season in the bigs, couldn't hit, and got sent down for a couple months.

Fact of the matter: He ALWAYS has a great Spring Training, he ALWAYS comes out of the gate strong, he USUALLY falters around 30 games into the season, and he ALWAYS gets injured by the All Star Break. If I remember right, he hasn't had a single season where he didn't have at least one DL-type injury. That includes his minor league seasons.

Repko is up to .233 from .185. He's starting to hit.

Seriously, Repko isn't a bad player, but in no way is he in the same class with Ethier or Kemp. And as bad as Jones has been, he has a long track record of power at the major league level.

Fact is, I would play Young before Repko (using Kemp in center). However, Young brings question marks. He's always been a good hitter in the minors (.303 lifetime minor league average) with decent power. However, I admit that even I became too excited after his hot September last year. Although a good hitter (who has a history of striking out a lot), Young has never been the hitting machine we saw at the end of last season. On defense he's not even close to Repko.

However, when all is said and done, I do not believe that Repko is more than a 4th outfielder, at least on a contender. Good player, just nothing special (except his arm).
