 Jared Allen-DL- VikingsJul. 29 - 11:33 am et
Vikings RE Jared Allen practiced at tight end in goal-line formations during Monday's training camp workout.
We can't imagine there being a dropoff from Visanthe Shiancoe. Allen caught a pair of TDs at tight end for the Chiefs last year. Any opportunities on offense could bolster Allen's fantasy value. He's already the consensus DL1.

Jared Allen will discuss his past alchohol-related issues at the 2008 Rookie Symposium in Carlsbad, California.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if anyone will listen," he said. "But at least we can say that someone told them. It's good for them to see some real-life anecdotes." Allen has two strikes in the NFL (both DUIs), but his slate will be wiped clean if he stays out of trouble until September. He appears to be well on his way.

SI.com's Don Banks reports that if Jared Allen stays incident free until September, the NFL will wipe his two past strikes off the books.
His most recent DUI would be exactly two years old at that time and the league would no longer hold it against him. Another DUI before September might get Allen suspended for an entire year.

Jared Allen is due an $8 million roster bonus in 2010 per the six-year, $72.36 million contract he signed with the Vikings.
The bonus is guaranteed for injury only. It protects Minnesota in case Allen gets in trouble with the law again. Allen's signing bonus is $15.5 million. His base salaries are: $750,000 (2008), $7.75 million (2009), $6.38 million (2010), $8,979,438 (2011), $11,619,850 (2012), and $14,280,612 (2013).

Jared Allen's six-year contract is worth $73.26 million and includes $38.4 million in the first three years.
The originally reported $31 million guaranteed is correct. Allen is a truly dominant player and should be even moreso next to the Williamses in Minnesota, but this is still a massive risk because of his off-field history. The deal will likely only be a success if he stays out of trouble.

Vikings acquired DE Jared Allen from the Chiefs in exchange for their first-round pick (No. 17) and two third-round picks (No. 73 and No. 82). They will pay Allen $74 million over six years, including $31 million guaranteed.
Allen can now claim to be the richest defender in NFL history. The Vikings and Chiefs are also expected to swap sixth-round picks. Allen will return to Minnesota Wednesday to finalize the deal. Chiefs GM Carl Peterson has been a poor drafter overall, but he did well here. Kansas City didn't want to pay Allen that much and can truly rebuild with all these picks.
