Lunch Time Notes: Really Quick Hits

Dusty Brown has been called up to help catch while Jason Varitek recovers from the flu... Dustin Pedroia said he could catch if needed: “I can catch,” Pedroia said. “I mean I haven’t caught 96 (mph) before but I can give it a shot.”

A change in mechanics has yielded positive results for Craig Hansen. Hansen has not allowed a run in 12 1/3 innings with Pawtucket and has struck out 13, while aloowing just 3 hits and 4 walks.

I’ve gone back to the way I pitched at St. John’s,” Hansen said. “My mechanics have changed.”

“Basically, I’m staying on a workout routine that’s working for me,” he said. “It’s been working since spring training. I was able to get a lot of things done in spring training that I needed to. Pitching in different situations, getting myself in different situations and pitching my way through it. It helped out a lot."

Hansen would be a welcome addition the Red Sox bullpen, especially with Mike Timlin struggling and the work load piling up early...

Josh Beckett will start Sunday against the Rays...

Coco says he's ready to play, but how do you sit Ellsbury after last night?? Maybe J.D. needs a day off...

From the Globe: Coco Crisp proclaimed himself still sore but prepared to play last night. Though he hasn't played since April 15 in Cleveland, his injured hamstring is apparently fully tested and ready to go. "The actual warm-up, there was a fly ball out there that I ran from left-center to right-center trying to catch a fly ball," Crisp said. "So it felt good. I feel like I can go today, go out there and play at the level of 100 percent." Francona indicated that Crisp might be back in the starting lineup by tomorrow, when he would face Angels lefthander Joe Saunders.

Oh, and you can meet Tina Cervasio's replacement... here.

She may be a former Miss San Diego, but at least one West Coast Sox fan think's she'll crack under the pressure by the All-Star break...

Oh my god. The Boston media/fans are going to have a field day with Heidi Watney. Not knowing anything about sports may work in an apathetic city towards sports (Bulldogs) with no pro teams, but in Boston? Her lack of sports knowledge is going to get her fired from that job with the Red Sox by July. Red Sox fans don't care what she looks like, they want someone who actually knows what they are talking about. This is actually the best thing that could have ever happened to the "I am too good for Fresno" Watney. After the thrashing she will get from the fans and media with this job in Boston, she will have to find another line of work.
