Thoughts from the Dark Side

Impatiently, the Raider Nation waits for the NFL Draft

The beer is on ice. The Raider fans are sharpening their spikes and getting the face paint ready. April’s answer to the Super Bowl is two days away. Now all the eyes are on the teams with the worst records from the past season. The passions are high in the Raider Nation as the fans are arguing like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton over whether to pick Darren McFadden, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, or trade their pick. The debate does not stop there, as the relative values of current players such as Fabian Washington are measured against the value of potential picks. As of now, the only thing sure is that Jake Long will be a Mimi Dolphin and will not be an Oakland Raider.

The amateur general managers and Mel Kupier, Jr wanna-bes are out in full force with continual mock drafts and preposterous trade possibilities. Every prospect is being broken down seventy ways until Sunday and compared to everyone who has ever played their position.

Meanwhile, the Raider Nation waits. Will Al Davis pull the trigger and trade down? Will he move certain players to add picks to his collection? Will it be the flashy running back in Darren McFadden, or will it be the son of a legend in Chris Long? No one knows. The only thing for certain is that it won’t be Jake Long, as he is now a Dolphin. Smart money also says that it won’t be Matt Ryan as the Raiders have their quarterback of the future in JaMarcus Russell.

The draft has moved from a mundane meeting to a hype extravaganza. Each of the first few names called will become among the top paid players on their team. The news will turn to contracts and holdouts. Many teams fans’ will buy the hype and believe their team is now an instant contender, even thought for every beast there is at least two busts. Other fans will buy the hype and be upset their team didn’t get the most hyped player.

Stay tuned to Thoughts from the Dark Side as we will be covering the hype extravaganza all this week and through the weekend in depth.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

Can’t wait to open that DE, wind him up, and let him go after all the QB’s and RB’s!

It’s been a Long time since the Raider Nation have had a team leader with the Talent , Pedigree , Determination and CHARACTER it takes to win a championship . Im talking Little Howie . I feel that all Raider fans should unite in their belief that he is to be our choice with the #4 selection . You can see the same look in his eyes that his dad had when he was shooting the gap and going in untouched for the SACK . remember ADs creed ” the QB must go down and he must go down hard ! ”

Besides do any of us want him playing for KC and him coming into our house that way ? None of us want that do we ?

    Peace My fellow Raider Fans

    Steve and Rob,

Oh the Drama!! My one question is what will the Nation do if both Run DMC and C. Long are on the board, and Al goes with D-Mac, or shocks everyone and takes someone we dont expect? I can barely contain my excitement over the uncertainty of the draft and what Al will do!

If Clongs not there (don’t wanna get my hopes up) remember the other DE’s Gholston who didn’t pick up a football till his sophmore year in high school, and Derrick Harvey who didn’t start playing football till high school either. What does that mean? Upside is ridiculous. Ellis is another perfect fit if Al is willing to play Kelly at End with a run stopping lineup of Richardson, Ellis, Sands or Warren, and Kelly. Plus w;/ Harvey or Ellis we would get another 2nd or third to address receiver, or OT. But if we get Mcfadden, fuck it I’ll still celebrate!!!!!!1

Uh… When we were winning we didn’t even care about the draft! We sound like Lion Fans. It’s like our whole future depends on this draft. I hope that’s not the case.

    Just Long Baby!
