Dallas Gives Away LB Ayodele and TE Fasano To Miami

By Chris Maier on 04/26/2008

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Dallas Cowboys have traded LB Akin Ayodele and TE Anthony Fasano to the Miami Dolphins for a 4th round pick (#100).   This is a fantastic move by the Miami Dolphins who bring in two starting caliber players in the prime of their careers for a 4th round pick.   From the Dallas perspective the move is a curious one and makes one wonder if Dallas is trying to clear some cap room for a bigger move.

While I don't necessarily agree with the team's reasoning Ayodele has been on the block since the team signed Zach Thomas.  Ayodele is 28 years old with ideal 3-4 inside backer size at 6'2 250 (try finding someone that size in this year's draft) and has been productive during his career.  Thomas on the other hand missed most of last season with concussion problems not to mention that he is nearing the end of his career.  Ayodele will start from day one in Miami and will provide a veteran leader for their 3-4 defense. Trading Fasano is another curious move.  While he has never put up great stats, he is a good 2nd TE that allows the team to split Jason Witten out wide in their 2 TE sets.   Fasano will battle David Martin for the starting tight end job in Miami.

Great move for Miami.  Very questionable move for Dallas as it leaves you wondering why is Dallas giving these players away and hindering their team's depth for a mere 4th round pick.   Bill Parcells will owe Jerry Jones a bit of gratitude for speeding up his rebuilding process.
