HOW TO BOOK THE WWE TITLE

Tonight, Triple H captured the WWE Title in a Fatal 4 Way Match at Backlash. The problem is, no one cares. WWE seems to have no clue on timing or how to build interest in the centerpiece of their organization, that being the WWE Title. People tune in to Monday Night Raw, Friday Night Smackdown!, ECW, etc to follow storyline progression. Let me rephrase that, progression of storyline they actually care about. So now what? How can WWE make us care about the WWE title? There was a day when holding the WWE title meant something, it elevated a superstar, it led to viewership. Now it's just a gold belt they shift around the roster.

I am here to show you how to bring in viewership while adding prestige to the WWE title. My first issue is taking the title off of Randy Orton. No heel has been booked to be a dominant champion since Triple H. So I guess this is where we start. For the record, I am a firm believer that certain stars are better at chasing titles then holding them. John Cena as WWE champion is so stale that him chasing the title and/or winning it right now does nothing for WWE viewership. What WWE needs is a new star for people to get excited about. Now for the booking.

Monday Night Raw (04.28.08)
Triple H opens Raw and addresses the fans. He talks about the feeling of being WWE champion is only sweet for the first few seconds of winning it, then reality sets in and you realize you are now the hunted. He knows he has JBL, Randy Orton, John Cena, and other superstars chasing him but now he has to keep the thought of Money in the Bank in the back of his head. He claims the Age of Orton was a fluke, Cena will be forgotten, but we are living in the Triple H era. He will forever be remembered for dominating a generation. He reminds the fans that the WWE title will be lost when and only when Triple H decides to. JBL interrupts and challenges Triple H to a title shot...tonight. JBL wants Triple H to prove to the wrestling gaaaaaaaawd that he is in the same class as JBL, the longest reigning champion in Smackdown! history. Triple H accepts and the match is official for Raw.

Triple H vs. JBL (WWE Title Match)
Triple H sets up JBL for the pedigree when Randy Orton charges the ring and lays out Triple H. HBK makes the save and cleans house of the heels.

The following week on Raw, Triple H thanks HBK for the help. HBK tells Triple H that he was notified a new number contender would be crowned tonight on Raw and HBK was in the tournament. Triple H seems a little confused as to why HBK knew this information before he did.

#1 contendership tournament match-ups:
Shawn Michaels vs. JBL
Randy Orton vs. John Cena

Later that night Randy Orton beats John Cena CLEAN. My theory with is that John Cena needs to not be booked as unbeatable and the fans will lessen up on their hate for him. Fans can jump back on his bandwagon when they know he is vulnerable. Shawn Michaels defeats JBL in the nights main event.

The following week on Raw Triple H is on commentary for the finals of the #1 contendership tournament.  HBK defeats Randy Orton and becomes the #1 contender to Triple H's WWE title. HBK wins a title shot at Triple H at Judgment Day.

The following week on Raw, the show opens up with HBK laying in a pool of his blood. During the broadcast it is assumed that JBL or Randy Orton attacked HBK. Triple H challenges both heels to a handicap match for later that night. HBK confronts Triple H in the ring and tells him that even though he is not 100% and all bandaged up he will have Triple H's back tonight.

DX vs. Randy Orton and JBL
The heels come out to the ring first. Shawn Michaels then comes to the ring. Triple H's music plays but he doesn't come out. His music plays a second time but he still doesn't come down to the ring. The heels seize the opportunity and beat down HBK for 5 minutes before pinning him. The camera's pan to the backstage area where it shows Triple walking to the ring with a smile on his face. Triple H chases the heels out of the ring and begins beat HBK down with a sledgehammer.

Hour two of of Raw begins with Triple H being interviewed by Todd Grisham in the back. Triple H tells Grisham that he is been in the business too long to fall for what HBK was doing. HBK went to the Raw GM (It won't be William Regal) and asked for the #1 contendership tournament and he did it behind Triple H's back. Triple H is a lone wolf and will destroy HBK for his disloyalty at Judgment Day.

Judgment Day (05.18.08)

Shawn Michaels is interviewed in the back and explains that it was actually John Cena who requested the #1 contendership tournament and he was only given a spot due to his recent victory over Batista at Backlash. He tells Triple H that he made the biggest mistake of his WWE career, Shawn Michaels reminds that he was Shawn Michaels before there was a Triple H and he helped make Triple but tonight he ends his era and cements his own name into another era.

WWE Title Match:
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels
A match with lots of blood leads to HBK kicking out of the pedigree, regaining his strength and mounting a comeback leading to a super kick. Triple H kicks out fights his way back, lands two consecutive pedigrees and retains his title.

We now have a dominant heel world champion. We now solidify Triple H as the leader of this era of pro wrestling. Shawn Michaels passes that torch with this match. Now anyone who beats his gets not only the world title but the rub of defeating Triple H. Finally a win over someone means something.

Part II: The title chase...coming tomorrow
