2008 NFL Draft Open Thread Part II

3:18- Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy to the Buffalo Bills.

A bit of a shocker considering everyone thought they would go receiver there.  McKelvin was thought by a lot of people, me included in the MCM mock draft to go to the Patriots.  Probably a good value there.

3:23- Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St. to the Broncos

The tackles will start flying off the board now. The Titans might have their pick of receiver at #24 if they want it.

3:28- Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon to the Carolina Panthers.

DeAngelo Williams has been a bit of a bust for the Panthers so this pick is not a huge surprise. The only surprise is that he went ahead of Rashard Mendenhall.

3:36-Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt to the Chicago Bears

Williams is a smart player. I think he will be a very good NFL tackle. He does need to get a little nastier according to some, but I think he is ready to be a good player.

3:42- The Chiefs have acquired 15 from the Detroit Lions and select Branden Albert, OL, Virginia.

When was the last time 2 Virginia players went in the top 15?

3:53- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, TSU to the Arizona Cardinals

DRC has all the tools to be a good corner. Two corners from small schools in the top 16..

3:58- Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College

It is a bit of a surprise that he goes ahead of Otah, but we are talking about the Lions.

4:00- The Ravens have traded up to #18 and it looks like they are going to take Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware

That seems to be quite a reach to me. Is he a better prospect than Brady Quinn who nobody wanted last season?

4:10The Eagles have traded #19 to the Panthers and they select Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh.

Not a bad day for the Panthers picking up a running back and an offensive tackle.

4:19- Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The good news is that they did not take a receiver.

4:28- The Redskins trade the pick to the Falcons who select Sam Baker, OT, USC

It will be interesting to see what they gave up to get him. This is a huge draft for the Falcons if they end up with a franchise quarterback and left tackle.

4:38- Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas

Don't be surprised if the Titans take Rashard Mendenhall.

4:44- Rashard Mendenhall, RB Illinois to the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Titans are on the clock, and I have no idea where they are going.

4:50- Are you kidding me? We just drafted Chris Henry again.

Do you see the Bucs definitely looking WR in the 1st?

by nvemvp23 on Apr 26, 2008 3:27 PM CDT   0 recs

The Eagles might as well....
....but I think people are shying away.

Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams
Both talented, but they're both speed guys IMO.

They should look for a bruiser.

Here comes Detroit...
watch them get a WR again. :D
Go Titans!

Kind of a wacky draft.
Titans may well come out in good shape, though.  Chiefs have done well IMHO.

Looking good for the Titans...
Starting to look like Erik Ainge is going to fall in our lap.  Woo-hoo!

by Kayne on Apr 26, 2008 3:47 PM CDT   0 recs

Cherilus?!
I wonder how they will grade this one.
Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Apr 26, 2008 3:59 PM CDT   0 recs

Nervous
Here is where the run on WRs could start.

But we're in good shape. Merling is still on the board and so is Mendenhall in case we want to go RB.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:07 PM CDT   0 recs

Flacco
I think Flacco does have better "potential" than Brady Quinn.  He may never reach that potential, but Brady may not ever do anything in this league either.

by Kayne on Apr 26, 2008 4:07 PM CDT   0 recs

6'6" with a rocket arm?
What's not to like?  Baltimore's playing smart here to me.

Here we go...
we might lose sweed, thomas and jackson in picks 20 to 23.
Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Apr 26, 2008 4:15 PM CDT   0 recs

If that happens, then...
you either take Merling or Felix Jones, and be happy.

Kentwan Balmer for the Titans?
what do you guys think?
Go Titans!

not a fan
of 1st round D-linemen with very questionable motors... they're almost always busts.
Earl Bennett for Titans' WR: He's ready on day one!

by August West on Apr 26, 2008 4:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i think...
we are in a good position to trade down a few spots as well.  a lot of the guys on our radar are still out there

by gotitans27 on Apr 26, 2008 4:25 PM CDT   0 recs

Wow
Glad we don't need any tackles.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:32 PM CDT   0 recs

No kidding!
Good shape now, though.

Yeah, let's trade down to the very end of the 1st.
Mendenhall, Felix Jones, Sweed, Jackson, Thomas, Hardy, and all the DE's we were eyeing are all still available.  I'd be happy with any of these guys (not Jackson as much), and we minus well get some picks to trade down a bit.

by nvemvp23 on Apr 26, 2008 4:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Mendenhall
would be a great pick at this point.  i watched him play a lot and he is a Great RB....him or thomas...wow!  kelly is there, jackson, hardy, OMG!

trade down and get some more picks???

by gotitans27 on Apr 26, 2008 4:41 PM CDT   0 recs

Mendenhall
I could see us picking Mendenhall is he's available. I think he will be the best value. I would prefer Sweed, Thomas, or Merling tho.

I would not be unhappy with Jackson. He's small, but the fact that Jerry Rice coaches him makes me want us to give him a shot.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:42 PM CDT   0 recs

WE'RE GOING TO GET A SEXY PICK!!!
Earl Bennett for Titans' WR: He's ready on day one!

let's cross our fingers...
here we go.
Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Apr 26, 2008 4:46 PM CDT   0 recs

DE
Maybe we go Merling here. And then pick up Bennett in the 2nd round.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:49 PM CDT   0 recs

Mike Jenkins?
Could use him.

by Kayne on Apr 26, 2008 4:50 PM CDT   0 recs

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awful.  Jimmy is in front of me and about to go nuts.

by Kayne on Apr 26, 2008 4:52 PM CDT   0 recs

wow...
We never make the pick I think we will.

johnson?

did we become a track team last night?
Earl Bennett for Titans' WR: He's ready on day one!

by August West on Apr 26, 2008 4:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Well...
At least he can return kicks.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:53 PM CDT   0 recs

wow didn't see us taking him with that many ppl
left..
could've gone with jenkins, merling, sweed, thomas, jackson, balmer, hardy, cason

by LastSd on Apr 26, 2008 4:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Well,
Ainge does not look like that bad of a pick now.

by Kayne on Apr 26, 2008 4:54 PM CDT   0 recs

That I don't understand.
Could'a got him in Round 2.  Argh.

BTW, Chris Henry is now, officially, a bust.

gotta trade back in for a WR
devin or sweed or wait until Earl.

by nvemvp23 on Apr 26, 2008 4:54 PM CDT   0 recs

I think they wanted F. Jones or Mendenhall
then they may have messed up big time

by jtc2086 on Apr 26, 2008 4:55 PM CDT   0 recs

time will tell
goodnight guys it's almost 2AM here.
Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Apr 26, 2008 4:55 PM CDT   0 recs

When...
Man... when will we draft a WR? Or will we not draft one at all?

What about our D line?

We need to trade up into the top of the 2nd! Pick up a DE or DT and then a WR.

by theologic on Apr 26, 2008 4:56 PM CDT   0 recs

Ack!
Screw me! The Titans pick is a damn repeat of the Chris Henry pick of last year. I am so incredibly pissed. CB Mike Jenkins is there, all the WRs in the entire draft are there, and Balmer is there at DT and they reach for a DT when LenDale White looks pretty good and Henry hasn't had a chance to even grade out. Someone needs to backhand the Titans front office and de-mustache Jeff Fisher. I'm like a 10 year old kid at Christmas who just found out that he got clothes.

by Thunder Jones on Apr 26, 2008 4:56 PM CDT   0 recs

Keep
In mind that there is Questions about White!  and LW was a Norm Chow guy.  What if he showed up for the OTA's over weight again?

by white02slpss on Apr 26, 2008 4:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm guessing we
Trade up in the second round for a WR!

NONE I mean NOT a single WR has gone. They are going to be there in the second!

I really think this was Best player Avail pick!  Like the Griffen pick of last year.

Yes I'm shocked, but have faith!

by white02slpss on Apr 26, 2008 4:57 PM CDT   0 recs

This pick
was dumb. He would have been still been in the 2nd and we could've gotten Devin Thomas... We need to trade for him...

by RhiNo6705 on Apr 26, 2008 4:57 PM CDT   0 recs

That PED suspension Henry got
must have scared the coaches

Earl Bennett for Titans' WR: He's ready on day one!

i head an awful lot of rumbling
on sports shows on friday that they might well take a RB in first round.  rumbling was right.

by numbertenox on Apr 26, 2008 4:58 PM CDT   0 recs

Wycheck
Wycheck loves this guy.  If he has anything to do with this abomination, we must track him down bewail his idiocy.

Speed kills (you when you overrate it)

by Thunder Jones on Apr 26, 2008 5:00 PM CDT   0 recs

wow
awful. how do you not get the best wide reciever in the draft?! i wanna punch something.

by titanbt53 on Apr 26, 2008 5:01 PM CDT   0 recs

Who!
Never saw him on any board.

by Titanfan on Apr 26, 2008 5:01 PM CDT   0 recs

I do like
the fact that we have a speedy RB to complement LenDale White.  Remember last year at this time we did all kinds of speculation and nobody thought we would pick Michael Griffin and he worked out.  This guy can fly.  There never was a clear number one WR, so there should be someone there in round 2 worth taking.  If Johnson can be like Maurice Jones-Drew then it is a great pick.  I like it a lot better than Chris Henry because he didn't even get carries in college.

by gotitans27 on Apr 26, 2008 5:02 PM CDT   0 recs

bad pick
gotitans27 griffin is very good yet he didnt solve the problems that all of us saw needed to be solved. Vince has no wideouts and us not drafting one for him came back to bite us. now we are going to have this running back but once again vince does not have speedy wideouts who can get open downfield.our wideouts are awful and drop the ball all the time. we should have atleast taken hawkins or manningham in the third round but no obviously we forgot completely bout picking up crumpler and drafted another TE im so pissed off at our gm and everyone helping with our draft right now.
