Sunday Bloody Sunday

We've got two days off now, folks. I'm sure the Pens are chomping at the bit to get their hands on the Rangers again (as are the fans). I've got a couple links for you to check out to pass some time until then.

Friends of The Show Michelle B. and Laura H. both hit me with an NHL.com article that details Sid's relationships with his teammates:
According to Maxime Talbot, Sidney Crosby’s faint attempt at growing a playoff beard makes him look “greasy.” As for the mustache he has going right now, Talbot said that makes him look “like Zorro.” [snoop: LOL]

Greasy? I think it looks dirty.
[...]

Fleury said when he and Crosby were both out with high ankle sprains earlier this year, they spent a lot of time at the goalie’s house playing Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360. The game is so popular the Penguins take it on the road with them.

Fleury, who is three years Crosby’s senior, takes great pleasure in dominating his good friend.
I myself am often a "CoD4 widow" - it's my husband's favorite game. :P

We all have heard about how picky Sidney is about not letting anyone touch his stick after he has finished taping it. Well, Michelle sent me also sent me this story from KDKA.com about how superstitious the Saint really is:
Just ask Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury: "I think Sid's the worst. He's even worse than the goalies!"

"Sid, for sure. Hands down," Malone added. "He's just weird. I just tell him he's a weirdo. He just does all these weird things. I don't even know what he's doing over there now!"

"When you believe in things / That you don't understand / Then you suffer / Superstition ain't the way."
That may be so, Stevie, but whatever Sid's doing seems like it's working!

Pens Forward Pascal Dupuis describes one of Crosby's more unusual habits. "He lifts his feet when we cross a railroad with the bus. He's got to touch the glass and lift his feet. He really does that!"

Danny Kroll, the team's assistant equipment manager, says Sid is even particular about what he uses to tape his sick. "Only tape from the road team that they supply. He won't use ours on the road!"

"Yeah, I have a few weird ones, " Crosby admits.
I had a friend in high school that did the glass touching thing over railroad tracks. It wasn't a big deal when we were in her car, but MAN I hated cleaning off the fingerprints any time we went somewhere in mine!

Other stories you should check out: Our Friend Bill in NS mentioned in the comments that the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame is featuring a Sidney Crosby exhibit now. The Chronicle Herald has all the details.

Take a look at Trina Crosby's old dryer - no WONDER Sid had to buy her a new one!!!

And while I was checking out that article, I found this one about Eric Staal's reluctance to pick sides between brothers Jordan and Marc during this Penguins/Rangers series (again from The Chronicle Herald):
But older brother Eric Staal isn’t taking sides.

The Carolina Hurricanes star, a forward with Team Canada, said Thursday it’s been exciting to watch his younger siblings square off in the playoffs.

"It’s pretty neat," Staal said following practice Thursday afternoon. "Both are playing really hard. They’re putting on a good show."

[...]

"Pittsburgh has looked pretty good in the playoffs," said the 23-year-old Staal, who’s followed by Marc at 21 and Jordan, 19.

"I talked to Jordan the other day and I told him that the fourth win is always the hardest to get."
Indeed. Hopefully, Gronk and company will be taking care of that this Sunday...

Thank yous to everyone who sent in links and/or tips in the comments sections!!! :) :) :)

Ok, when I was in high school, we used to do the feet lifting thing (and it seems like we tapped the ceiling? and maybe said something as well? it's been waaaaaaaay too long!) Oh, and we used to hold our breath through tunnels (actually, I still do that)...

And I'm pulling double-duty in the 3-1 club since my Stars lost the other night too. I'll lift my (non-driving!) foot as I cross the railroad tracks tonight for good luck for both teams!!

Hmm, sounds like what Eric was really saying to Jordan was, "Here, random brother who has not won the Stanley Cup, take some advice from the only Staal who has."

For now.

The interview with Troy Crosby from NHL Live the other day even mentioned how supersitious Sid is. His dad said the entire family is very supersitious.

You just gotta wonder what else he does...

I read the article about Sid and his relationship with the guys on the team and I kind of feel bad for him. It must suck to always have the media in your face and fans bothering you when you go out. I don't know how he deals with it. I'm the same age as him and I can't imagine having any of the responsibilities that he has
(although he does get paid REALLY well to do them). I don't know anything about his dating life but I can imagine it's going to be hard for him to meet a girl one day. But I hope he does because he seems like a nice guy.

I just think that for a 20 year old it's to much pressure. He's handling it very well but I feel bad for him.

on one hand, i suppose i, too, feel bad for sid for the constant media scrutiny, anna. he's young and shouldn't have to be subjected to the harsh criticism that he receives...

...but, then again, he's got around 8.7 million reasons a year why he doesn't need our pity!!!

If you are going to feel bad for anybody it should be Taylor Crosby. Can you imagine being the kid sister to Sid. I mean people criticize her for not being as good a hockey player as her big bro (she's a goalie).

I grew up in the shadows of my two older brothers who were "star" athletes in our town but could not imagine what it would be like to have an international superstar athlete as your older brother. Yes you would be proud but might have a slight resentment too.
Remember she's also 9 years younger then him.

How would you guys feel in her shoes?

carroll, anyone who criticizes taylor crosby deserves to be punched repeatedly in the kidneys by BGL and GR.

Comparing Taylor to Sid would be like comparing Sid to Fleury.....they play totally different positions! (not to mention the age difference and all that). Hell, I'd sic Sean Avery on them too!

And Sid can come and spend some time here in the great hockey town of Nashville (snark!). No one would bother him here :)

I agree with you Stephanie. I also think that it would be a lot worse if Taylor was a male not a female.

I do feel bad for her too though. I'm sure she constantly gets asked about her brother.

Although I am TOTALLY bummed to see the Habs eliminated, if the inter-Pennsylvania rivalry is anywhere near as intense as the inter-Ontario rivalry (which I am sure it is, if not exponentially worse), this should be an incredible conference final series! *knockREPEATEDLYonwood*

As for Taylor Crosby, props to her for even pursuing a sport her brother was being lauded for his skills in from BEFORE she was born... That takes guts and moxie, plus, um she's TWELVE, which leaves plenty of time for Troy to turn her into the next Manon Rheaume ;)

Philly is a good team, but they are beatable. I have no worries. (Look at me getting ahead of myself here, I guess it is just implied that the Pens are going to beat the pants off the Rangers tommorrow).
I would also like to add that my love for Sidney is unconditional, but I do have to say that seeing the picture of him without the facial hair was a breath of fresh air. I miss my cover boy! Hahaha!

I can't wait for us to end the Rangers season today. Jagr seems as though he could use a round of golf.
Sid also mentioned that when the team wins everyone has to sit in the same place on the bus. I think it's really rather hysterical all of his superstitions, but hey if it makes him play a better game then I'm all for it.
Last game of this series in 4 hours. Pens Dominate!

Anyone know the date that his dad was on? I sifted through the NHL Live broadcasts, but if someone could save me from listening through every one of them, that'd be stellar *laugh*

Lisa the interview was on April 30.

Look under April 30 podcast, it's under "Troy Crosby Interview", it's his interview without all the rest of the 2 hours. ABout 12 minutes.

Hossa has definately left behind his playoff demons now!

Can't wait for the re-cap.
