Has Lewiston Already Made Their Selection?
Finally some QMJHL Draft News. In a recent article in the Western Star, highly ranked forward Brandon Hynes says his first choice would be Lewiston.
“Wherever I go, I go,” he said. “But Lewiston would easily be my first choice. Their coach (Ed Harding) was in New Brunswick with me last summer and he told me he liked what he saw and he wanted to draft me and make me a better player. I lived with their head scout (Roger Shannon) all last summer as well …I trained with their trainer and I know another one of their scouts.”
I don’t know too much about the kid other then he’s 5′8 and 172lbs. I think it would be a good fit for the Maineiacs to draft this kid. The organization seems to know the kid and knows what he brings to the table. The team needs to restock the forward position also.
One mock draft I read had the Maineiacs selecting defenseman Garrett Clarke. He’s an offensive defenseman who played with Russell Stover Under 18 team in Kansas City, Mo. He had 12 goals and 35 assists. Clarke is committed to North Dakota for the 2010-2011 season. He would look good in a Maineiacs uniform but the Lewiston wouldn’t risk a 1st round pick on a player that might not report to camp. Basically Clarke will choose where he wants to go.
The Draft is June 4th in Cape Breton.
OHL News
With the J.Ross Robertson Trophy on the line.Kitchener took control of the first period and out shoot Belleville 21-9 and a goal by Brandon Mashinter (2) at 17:56. The score could have been higher if it was not for Belleville’s goalie Mike Murphy who made numerous big saves. Early in the second period Kitchener’s Nick Spaling (14) made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 1:31. Then at 13:45 Team Canada Junior star player Shawn Mathas scored his first goal of the playoffs to pull Belleville closer to Kitchener 2-1. This was Mathas first game of the OHL Playoffs as he had been out with Mono since the end of the regular season. The score after the second period was 2-1 Kitchener. Shots in that period were 15-9 Kitchener. In the third period Nazen Kadri (9) scored at 6:18 after a Belleville give awayin their zone. The final goal of the game was an empty net goal by Mike Duco (16) at 19:11 to make the final score 4-1 Kitchener. Kitchener wins the OHL Championship (4-3) & J.Ross Robertson Trophy.

The NHL Network will be showing the Holy Grail of Junior Hockey. It’s offered on most cable and satellite providers as a premium channel. I think for Time Warner Cable it’s $1.99 a month to add the channel. It’s better then $7.00 for one single webcast. The tournament kicks off Friday with the Kitchener Rangers taking on the Gatineau Olympiques at 7pm. Where was this service last where when we needed it?
That’s My Take
