Today the Reds placed on the 15-day disabled list IF/OF Ryan Freel (strained right hamstring) and recalled from Class AAA Louisville OF Corey Patterson (#23)...Freel and LHP Kent Mercker (lower back pain) are scheduled to be examined in Cincinnati later this week...Patterson began the season with the Reds and hit .200 in 45g and 29 starts before he was optioned to Louisville last Wednesday to make room on the roster for Andy Phillips...for the Bats Patterson hit safely in 4 of his 5 apps and produced a 2-hit game and two 3-hit games (9-22, .409, 2 2b, 1sb).So now I'm going back to revisit this quote from Dusty Baker:
"It was a mutual decision," Baker said. "I was going to call Corey in and talk to him. He came in before I called him in. He said, 'I got to get my act together. I've got to change some things.' He knows he's better than he played. He's still got the skill, the talent. He's still only 28 years old. It's a good move to go down, stay a while and get his stuff together."I guess a while is 5 games in Reds land. I don't care if Patterson is just back because of the injury, the fact is Dusty will find thousands of ways to get him at-bats, play him over Bruce when there is a tough righty or something, and Corey being back with the club will mean no playing time for Janish. Just when the Reds were starting to play better as a team they go, and remind us Reds fans that there is still time to suck for the rest of the year.
The Reds also outrighted Drew T. Anderson. I'm not sure what they are doing with that 40 man spot.
