The Seattle Mariners hire Bill Bavasi to replace Pat Gillick as general manager.
Carlos Guillen is traded (note: it may not have been Bavasi's idea to get rid of him. However, Bavasi did engineer the trade.) for Ramon Santago and Juan Gonzalez (not THAT Juan Gonzalez).
Seattle decides not to offer Mike Cameron arbitration.
Raul Ibanez is signed to become the new everyday left fielder.
Scott Spiezio signed to be the new everyday third baseman.
2004:
Richie Sexson, age 30, signed to a 4 year, 50 million dollar deal to be the starting first baseman.
2005:
Jarrod Washburn signed to a 4 year, 37 million dollar deal
Carl Everett signed to one year, 3.4 million dollar deal
2006:
Rafael Soriano traded for Horacio Ramirez
Chris Snelling and Emiliano Fruto traded for Jose Vidro
Miguel Batista signed to three year, 25 million dollar deal
2007:
Carlos Silva signed to four year, 44 million dollar deal
2008
Seattle trades Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Tony Butler, Chris Tillman, and Kameron Mickolo for Erik Bedard.
These are only a few of the many roster mistakes that Bill Bavasi made for the Mariners during his time here. Bavasi crippled this team, always under the illusion that we were a player or two away from a division championship. The Mariners finally made a good move yesterday for the first time in a long time.
