Mats Sundin in a Montreal Canadiens uniform. What a strange sight it would be. Remember though, Sundin was initially a member of the now defunct Quebec Nordiques, so even though he is known as a Toronto Maple Leaf through and through, he has played in the province of Quebec in the past. Now, NHL legend and current Montreal Canadiens' GM, Bob Gainey will try and lure Sundin back to Quebec, and he will use the Stanley Cup as his bait.

The Montreal Canadiens were one of the top teams in the NHL last season, and only inexperience, and shaky goaltending kept them from an extended playoff run. They've already acquired another talented forward by nabbing Alex Tanguay. Now they want to land one of the biggest catches in this year's free agent feeding frenzy. It is the 100 year anniversary for the storied franchise, and Bob Gainey has been given a blank check to make sure the Canadiens have a legitimate shot at winning the Stanley Cup this year.

Critics might say that Sundin is too old, that his best years are behind him, and that Montreal would be better off spending dollars elsewhere to try and bring Stanley Cup glory. Those critics would be wrong on all counts. Mats Sundin is still one of the most dominant players in the game, and he has that rare ability to elevate his game even further in clutch games. Furthermore, Sundin will be rejuvenated by the move to Montreal. Just look how dominant he is every time he goes and plays for Sweden at international events. He owns the puck and the ice around him. A change of scenery will do Sundin a world of good, and the Montreal Canadiens would be the beneficiaries if Gainey can get his man.
