Wimbledon update- Youngsters

June 25, 2008

After all the hype and anticipation of Donald Young being the next best thing to come out of America  since Capitalism, a first round exit at Wimbledon was not what the boys at ESPN were looking for.

Young (19), squared off against Levine (21), who is another rising American star. The match went to four sets with Levine taking it in the end. It was a highly anticiapted match between the two youngsters and it seems that Young just couldn`t convert his 2007 Junior Wimbledon victory into anything of any value.

Although being the oldest tennis tournament around, Wimbledon is also a place where the young can shine. Andy Murray, is one of Britains last hopes to lift the silverware in July. His first round match against Santoro of France was testiment to his eagerness to give the British something to shout about in their own back yard.

Another British hopeful, Chris Eaton along with French youngster Richard Gasquet  and Marin Cilic from Croatia are my picks for youngsters to do well at the Finals.

On the Ladies side, Ursula Radwanska from Poland, who won the 2007 Junior Wimbledon for ladies, cruised into the second round. She faces a tough match today when she squares off against Serena Williams. It could be the upset of the tournament but something in me says that this is highly unlikely.

Other ladies youngsters to watch out for are:

Timea Bacsinszky, Dinara Safina and Aleksandra Wozniak
