Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms has told friends he would be interested in signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Simms has come up in talks with Cowboys officials as a possible backup to QB Tony Romo.

Above quote from KFFL.com

Let me preface this by saying, I do believe the Cowboys need another back up quarterback. Brad Johnson has had a good career, but I don't think he would bring the same type of play that would match with the current system.

I have always thought the Cowboys would be shopping for a back up quarterback, but Jerry said earlier that he was happy with Johnson. Then you here reports that they are shopping for a back up quarterback. I know the Cowboys can't talk about another player under contract with another team.

So, with all that being said, will Chris Simms be an acceptable quarterback to back up Tony Romo? I like the fact that he is younger, but he hasn't played for a season and a half due to his injury to his spleen.

I think he struggled with Gruden's offense in Tampa, and may actually be a better fit here in Dallas. His best season was in 2005, when he went 191/313 for 2,035 yds, 10 TDs, 7 Ints.

His numbers are not that great since being in the NFL, but like I said before, it might not have been a good fit with the Bucs.

There really isn't any quarterbacks left to pick up. My question is do we stick with Brad Johnson or pick up Chris Simms? Only other option would be Richard Bartel, but I think he still needs some more time to develop. And, by the way, let Brett Favre retire!
