So How About Dem Bums?

I just finished re-watching the 9th inning of the game last night, and it was a truly ridiculous comeback, especially when you consider how anemic the offense has been this year. I think my change from despair to elation was similar to the back-to-back-to-back-to-back home run game (with the Nomar walk-off, of course) against the Padres two years ago. No, nothing will probably ever compare to that game, but today was the first time since then that i've been so excited about a Dodger rally. I'm extremely hopeful that this game will serve as some kind of turning point for this young Dodger team. Hopeful, but not expectant. Cautiously optomistic, if you will. :o

As far as analysis goes, I think Dodger Blues has already put it best.

"Who was the rally was fueled by? The kids, for the most part. Kemp, Loney, LaRoche, Martin, Ethier… and then a save (albeit a shaky one) by Jonathan Broxton. Let’s face it, the Dodgers aren’t going all the way this year—despite now being once again tied for first—but a win like this has to inspire some confidence in the future. I’d like to think Ned Colletti shares that confidence, but unfortunately he’s going to be spending the next ten days fighting to save his job. That’s dangerous. What that means is that he’ll probably pull the trigger on a big trade or two that will cost the Dodgers a prospect, won’t get them any further into the postseason, and will saddle a new GM with another absurd contract. You want to make moves, Ned? Keep picking up guys like Pablo Ozuna. He won’t help the team, but at least you won’t be destroying it."
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Also, here's a hilarious quotable from Joe Torre about Maza and Berroa.
"It probably wasn't a good sign the other night for Luis Maza or Angel Berroa when Torre sent in pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo to pinch-hit to lead off the seventh inning, the Dodgers down by a run and Maza, Berroa and LaRoche still available to hit.

Torre later explained he had only one pinch-hitter left on his bench, LaRoche.

When asked what about Maza and Berroa, he said he had only one pinch-hitter left. Ouch.

That might explain why Maza was asked to pack his bags and leave before Sunday's game. Here's hoping Berroa didn't sign any long-term apartment lease."
"Ouch" is right.

BallHype: hype it up!
