No sense in compiling them when SI.com has already done it:

Just for the sake of comparison UFC 84: “Ill Will” fighter salaries tallied $1,098,000, which is considered high — if not the highest ever — for the promotion.

Wow.

RIGHT????? What is up with that?? No Bonus either?? How does the Champion that is in the Main Event win against #3 contender and he doesn’t get a bonus. But Arlovski gets a 1/4 Million $ bonus for beating up Rothwell? Fedor could have killed Ben.

I’m with John, in that I think that there is something wrong with these numbers. I heard over $1 million as well. I heard Fedor was getting close to $2 million actually, and that Timmy was getting $800,000 win or lose. Timmy got the $800k but Fedor was way off. The source I got that from is reliable and they had Timmy’s number right on the money.

I mean Ben Rothwell just about made as much money as Fedor. WTF?!?!?!?!

Lindland and Barnett each made about the same as Fedor.

How does Timmy and Arlovski get paid nearly 3 times as much as Fedor???

VM: I am positive that Fedor made more from Affliction than $300,000. maybe they paid him money up front as a signing bonus to do all the promotions that he had to do, but I am 100% positive that Affliction forked over a million plus to Fedor for taking part in the event.

NO DOUBT IN MY MIND That FEDOR made at the very least, 1.5 million!

2008-07-21 13:15:17 I’m having trouble putting myself in Big Tim’s shoes. He wasn’t just having another fight, another payday. He was facing a living legend (and Tim most definitely looked apprehensive right before it started). For me, that would be like having Escoffier come back from the dead and challenge me to cook. I’d probably puke down my apron! And in that split second of uncertainty, Fedor unloaded on him. I honestly think it couldn’t have been fixed. What money Tim could have made from that would be dwarfed by following paydays as he would’ve been known as the fighter that beat Fedor!

Comment by JV
2008-07-21 19:41:33

Chefdaddy, maybe Tim could have got paid 500k like Chuck gets for beating Fedor. But 800k??? does that not tell you everything? Just wait and see how much Tim makes on the next show. Fedor is Affliction’s ticket to survive. So they paid Tim an extra 500k to take the dive and now they promote Fedor/Couture. Fedor is Affiction’s ticket to survival.

JV, nothing is impossible, especially in the sports world, but I’m a stubborn rat-bastard, and I simply don’t see it. It’s still my opinion that no matter what someone could have slipped Tim under the table, he would have made FAR more if he became the ONE AND ONLY guy to actually beat Fedor. And who’s to say Affliction will get Fedor vs Randy? There is no way Dana will take his teeth out of that one, and if he wants, he can tie Randy up in court for ages. The only thing I might take a half-@ss guess at: 1-Randy comes back and fights BIG Nog first then goes for Fedor. Doubt that one, cuz Dana won’t risk his HW belt going outside the UFC. 2- Maybe Dana allows Fedor vs Randy (removing his hold on the belt and leaving it to Nog), and UFC and Affliction split the money. What do you think of that one? It seems to solve a lot of problems. The UFC keeps its belt (even if Fedor beat Nog twice), Randy and Fedor get to see who is better (not much doubt on my part as to who that might be) and both organizations make much dinero and gain TONS OF EXPOSURE!

If there wasn’t a straight bribe to take a dive, that huge guaranteed paycheck didn’t give Tim Sylvia much motivation to fight hard.

Supposively Fedor’s total pay is going to be around 1.5mil according to payout. He has a promotional contract with Affliction in addition to his fight contract.

And JV, Chuck doesnt make 500K a fight. That doesnt factor the PPV bonus he gets that is rumored to be higher then his base salary. Chuck clears a 1mil easy. Dana even said as much during the Randy fiasco when he went out of his way to reveal how much certain fighters are paid.

It is strange guys that you don’t understand that Fedor would come for free just to prove to American audience that he is the best. But to find a worthy opponent who knew that he would be destroyed (and his carrier) in a minute (There is nothing in UFC which can withstand Fedor.) this was the problem. By the way now I would be surprise if Fedor would not cash in. Now he become if not a legend then a pain in ass in States and a lot of money should be there to see that somebody would beat him. It should be a line waiting. But maybe I am wrong and UFC guys would just talk it out with their “fixed” garbage and pretend that among theirs bunch of potato bags there is a better fighter than Fedor, or how they would put “the world champion” as usual.

This talk about Tim taking a dive is based on the assumption that Fedor needed Tim to dive, which I don’t think is the case. I don’t understand why Fedor took the fight for 300K when Dana would have paid him nearly 10X that for the same fight in UFC.

Chef…I posted something similar in another thread.

I’ve followed Fedor since his Pride days…I’ve gotten to watch bootleg Samba tournaments he’s been..I’ve seen how good Fedor is.

I’ve also lived in an era where many baseball players have been found using steriods, NBA officials are being paid off to shave points, and boxing refs were on the payroll to fix fights.

Would it surprise you the least bit if 3-4 months down the road, Tim was found to have throw the fight? I think if Fedor fought Tim 10 times, Fedor would win all ten of them. But, the UFC maybe the most ‘reliable’ MMA org of all the competition. Crocop vs Gonzaga probably lost the UFC millions. Yet, they are still around.

Affliction can’t afford Fedor to lose. That’s a scary thing don’t you think? If the same fight happened in the UFC, and Fedor destroyed Tim in the same fashion (which would probably happen), I’d be a more convinced MMA fan.

That’s the enjoyment of these forums…we have the right to our opinions. Cheers!

Good post TabascoSAUCE. to say complete and utter bullsh!t is wrong chefdaddy. EliteXC is an established Org. and everybody called it fixed, why? cause they were 27mil in the whole and Kimbo was their life line. Affliction knew they were going to loose money on this first show, so why is it hard to believe that the fix was on??? Now after seeing Fedor destroy a former UFC champ, they will do good in their next show. Have you guys heared the bull Tim said at the post fight press conference? The whole show those weak announcers kept suck!ng Fedor nuts. Then it was for a belt that neither deserved to be fighting for. You guys dont want to hear it cause its Fedor.

If there has ever been a dive in MMa, it would have been Bo Catrell loosing to Kimbo adter kimbo punched him on the shoulder!

They only paid Nogueira $50,000? THats Veryu cheap!

rothwell = Overpaid!
Tim = Overpaid
Fedor = Underpaid
Arlovski = worth every penny
Babalu aand Vitor are grossly overpaid!

THey are paying way too much for these fighters. They can lower there pay by a lot and it would still be better than what the UFC would pay them!

Kenton, if I remember correctly (and 50 people will blast/correct me if I’m wrong) it wasn’t about the money. Fedor wanted his brother and most of his Red Devil squad signed to the UFC. He also disagreed with not being allowed to fight outside the UFC on contract, and he objected to the UFC’s rollover clause (after your contract is up, if you’re the champ, it AUTOMATICALLY renews for the same pay.) I’m sure there were more issues for both sides.

I seem to recall that yes, those were the reported(rumored?) reasons for Fedor not taking the UFC contract, that the UFC was only interested in signing him and not half of his camp, and he wanted to still be able to fight outside of the UFC while under contract. Though I do also seem to recall Dana stating somewhere that Fedor’s management kept trying to highball him with the numbers Fedor allegedly wanted for the contract and were trying to sell him on business prospects like building a stadium in Russia.

Cheffdaddy: u r rirght! those are the reason’s that Fedor didnt sign in the UFC… .dana is an idiot! He should have offered Fedor a contract only exclusive in the USA. Meaning Fedor can go fight in Japan whenever he wants! Seriously, why should Dana care if Fedor fights in Japan while he is in the UFC? Fedor will never loose! So its not like Dana has to worry about 1 of his champions loosing in another organization! Fedor cant loose, he doesnt even know how to loose!

If anything,. Fedor being a UFC fighter and fighting outside of the country would only increease the UFC’s fan base, because Japanese Fans, who dont follow the UFC, would all have to start paying attention to the UFC to see Fedor

If the UFC had Fedor vs. Nogueira 3 in Japan, they can sell oput a stradium with over 140,000 people, something they can only dream of doing in America

Fedor’s style is actually better suited for an American Cage fight…he never really used to many Knees on the ground or soccer kicks and head stomps when fighting under Pride!

If Fedor stacks someone against the cage and works his Best Ground n pound attack ever seen (with elbows included) It could lead to the 1st death in American mma!

M-1 must be paying a percentage to Fedor as well so my guess is that he probably made the most money out of everyone listed. He didn’t go to the UFC because they could not let his management be part of the production and promote their M-1 organization, as easy as that, all they wanted was a chunk of the UFC and now they are probably getting a huge chunk out of affliction. If they didn’t break even hopefull Fedor can take his payment in a bunch of crappy t-shirts.

i wonder if they came up positive or negative as in… how many ppv they sold and how much they made off of the event. it was good to see top notch HWs fight. seems like it’s been a while.

I CANT WAIT FOR THE DAY WHERE FIGHTS GET PAID ACCORDING TO HOW WELL THEY PERFORM. SYLVIA WOULD THEN BE LUCK TO HAVE MADE 5K AS OPPOSED TO THE AMOUNT THAT HE DID. FEDOR WILL BE ON AT LEAST 500K IN HIS NEXT BOUT.

And you thought Sylvia was UNPOPULAR before this fight……..Wait till word gets out that he made $800,000, basically more than any other fighter in history WHILE Fedor got $300,000??????

I am sure that UFC might of paid a couple fighters with BIG BONUSES like Hughes beating Gracie and GSP beating Hughes…But people are REALLY going to hate Big Tim now!!!!

That is unheard of???? How could that happen???? How could Fedor and his mgt team let it happen??? Come on, old ass Tank Abott got something like $130,000, nearly the same as Kimbo

Don’t forget that Trump is a billionaire, 3.3 mil is not much out of Trump’s billion dollar pocket.

You know Fedor and his team will negotiate…..How could they let Tim make 2 and a half times what Fedor did?????

And if Fedor didnt know that until afterwards, then maybe the UFC has a chance to get him aferwards.

LOL You think Trump is a charity? EVERY SINGLE THING he does comes with the intention of making more money.
