Kevin Marshall Signs with the “City of Brotherly Love”

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have agreed to terms with Kevin Marshall.  The Flyers made him their second round selection in 2007.  With the Maineiacs last year he had 11 goals and 24 assists in 66 contests.  Marshall also compiled 143 penalty minutes.  He was named to the QMJHL team that faced Russia in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge and went to the World Junior Championship evaluation camp.  Marshall was also a second team all star.  This summer he was traded to the Quebec Ramparts for two 2008 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, and a 6th round pick.

He was one of my favorite players to watch.  It hurts that he will be with the Quebec Ramparts because he like to get under your skin.  Another thing that makes him fun to watch is he plays bigger then he really is.  The Flyer site lists him as 6′1 and 190, he plays like he’s 6′4 220.  He has played his last game at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee as the only two times the Ramparts come to town are December 5th and 6th (unless Lewiston and Quebec face each other in the playoffs).  Both of those games will be played at the Cumberland County Civic Center.  It’s highly unlikely the Flyers will send him down to Quebec for the 2009-2010 season.

Look for Marshall to challenge a spot on the Canadian World Junior squad this December.  Once the Ramparts season is over, he will most likely be assigned to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL.

Another local hockey star secured a NHL contract.  Greg Moore a Lisbon native signed a one year deal with the New York Rangers.  The former St. Doms and Maine Black Bears standout had 26 goals and 40 assists in 72 games with the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL last year.  He also appeared in six games with the Rangers last year.  A Ranger fan on HfBoards was up in arms over the signing.  The Rangers like to overspend on players and can’t find a way to win it counts.  Moore is a proven winner at almost every level and will push players to earn their spot on the Rangers.  Like people on the Rangers board said, he a great depth guy to have.

You can see the game summaries from the U-17 Camp hereTravis Moore had a goal today with an assist goaing to Maine recruit for the 2011-2012 season Darcy Ashley.  Moore also assisted on Ashley’s goal.
