The Bulls this week are all about revenge. Just when they get counted out, they come back strong. The Bears, meanwhile, are either the victim of injury, inconsistency, or a bad trade fantasy-wise:
Bulls
Chris Carpenter - SP - (St. Louis Cardinals): Essentially rising from the ashes, Carpenter returned from a 16-month layoff to pitch four strong innings for the Cardinals, throwing only 67 pitches. As his pitch-count limit increases, Carpenter's value rises, especially if he continues to be as efficient as Wednesday's start. The Cardinals need Carpenter for their playoff push, but more importantly, he could be a very valuable third starter for your fantasy rotation.
A.J. Burnett - SP - (Toronto Blue Jays): Maybe it took trade talks to get him going, but Burnett is finally pitching like the star the Blue Jays thought they were signing almost three years ago. The questions about him have always centered around his health, but this year Burnett was healthy. He just couldn't pitch. That has changed of late; in his last three starts, he has a 1.42 ERA and 23 K in 19 innings. Even though the Blue Jays have said they won't trade him, hopefully Burnett is still motivated to be the dominating pitcher he can be.
Carlos Delgado - 1B - (New York Mets): Speaking of motivation, Delgado has heard the whispers all season that he is finished and the Mets should look to upgrade. For most of the year, Delgado was proving the naysayers right. Of late, however, Delgado is hitting more like the hitter he was in his prime. Since the All-Star break, Delgado is hitting .378 with six HR and .822 SLG. When Delgado is hot, he can make it last a while, so take advantage of his productivity while it lasts.
Runners-up Bulls: Brian Fuentes - RP - (Colorado Rockies); Chad Billingsley - SP/RP - (Los Angeles Dodgers)
Bears
Scott Rolen - 3B - (Toronto Blue Jays): Rolen has been something of a disappointment all season. Sure, he has generally been able to stay in the lineup since joining the lineup in late April, but he is only hitting .257 for the season with only six HR and 31 RBI. Now comes word that his shoulder has been bothering him. Rolen was a sleeper before the season started, but his stock has faded gradually, and now it looks like his owners should just give up on him for the year.
Javier Vazquez - SP - (Chicago White Sox): Vazquez was one of the more underrated pitchers going into the season, and his fast start justified his sleeper status. However, since the summer started, he cannot seem to get anyone out. In June, he had a 7.48 ERA, with opponents hitting .330 off him. July has been a little better, but he still had a 5.65 ERA for the month. Vazquez still racks up plenty of strikeouts, but until he stops allowing baserunners, he is not worth starting.
Jon Rauch - RP - (Arizona Diamondbacks): Ordinarily, a trade from a bottom-feeder to a contending team is good news, but that often is not the case with relief pitchers and their fantasy owners. Rauch may not have received a lot of save opportunities with the Nationals, but he was their closer. That is not the case with his move to the Diamondbacks. Although he strengthens their bullpen, he is not the closer anymore, so unless your league values Holds, Rauch's value takes a big hit with his move.
Runners-up Bears: Jimmy Rollins - SS - (Philadelphia Phillies); Ervin Santana - SP - (Los Angeles Angels)
