Ouija Boards, magic eight balls, tarot cards. For centuries, man has looked for supernatural ways to try and get answers. We here at
Bruno Boys Fantasy Football are no different. Always looking for an edge for the upcoming fantasy season, we look to higher powers and turn to our magical crystal ball. The article below is the fourteenth of many that will reveal what we have seen. This time our look into the future is focused on the likes of
Chicago Bears' tight end,
Greg Olsen.
2007 in Review:
Coming out of the "U,"
Greg Olsen had a solid rookie campaign for the
Chicago Bears in 2007. Despite missing time due to injury the tight end was able to haul in 39 passes for a total of 391 yards and 2 TDs. The numbers may not be
Antonio Gates or
Tony Gonzalez like, or even similar to fellow alumni,
Jeremy Shockey's, but they are a good indication that Olsen has what it takes to play at the high level that is the NFL, especially when you recall the 4 game stretch he had from week 5 to week 8, in which he totaled 227 yards and 2 TDs.
Olsen's fantasy value in 2007 was somewhat hindered by his surroundings. Had Olsen been Da' Bears only viable option at the tight end position, he very well could have topped the 700 yard receiving mark and doubled his TDs. After all,
Desmond Clark, who Olsen split time with, ended 2007 with 545 yards and 4 scores. But,
Desmond Clark's presence wasn't the only thing that hurt Olsen in 2007,
Rex Grossman's presence under center also had a dramatic effect on Olsen's production. Remember that 4 game stretch mentioned earlier, Grossman wasn't under center for any of it. For one reason or another, the pair never built much of a rapport.

2008 Bruno Boys Crystal Ball:
Whether or not Grossman is under center this year shouldn’t matter too much to Olsen’s production. After all, the Bears are so weak at the wideout position, with
Brandon Llyod and
Devin Hester as their starters, that Grossman will be forced to look Olsen’s way often, giving him numerous opportunities to tally fantasy points.
Olsen should have those opportunities if he beats
Desmond Clark out for the starting tight end job or not, as the Bears, again due to their weak wide receiver corps, will utilize two tight end sets often in their offense, meaning Olsen will see the field more in 2008 than he did in 2007.
The one thing that may limit Olsen and prevent him from becoming an every week play in fantasy leagues will be the Bears overall ineffectiveness on offense. With Grossman or Orton under center, rookie
Matt Forte at running back, and Hester and Llyod starting on the outside, it could be a tough season for the Bears’ offense, but even so, Olsen looks primed to be a bright spot. Look for 500+ yards and 5 TDs.
