Pettersson holds two shot edge at Wyndham Championship
Aug 16th, 2008 | By TeeOff | Category: Golf, News, PGACarl Pettersson shot 66 in the third round to stay on top of the leaderboard with a two shot edge over Scott McCarron, who shot his second straight 64, at the Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club.
Pettersson started the day with four pars and then made an eagle on the fifth hole and two birdies over the next seven holes. After a bogey on the 15th hole, Pettersson birdied the 17th hole for a tournament total of 19-under par.
McCarron didn’t make a bogey in his round that had him make three birdies on each side. The big move of the day was made by Briny Baird. Baird shot 62 in the third round, moving up from 29th place to third. He started the day with a bogey and ended the side with a bogey on the ninth, with three birdies in between. He got hot on the back carding three straight birdies on 10, 11 and 12. After pars on the 13th and 14th holes, Baird closed the day with four straight birdies.
Baird is tied with Kevin Streelman and Garrett Willis at 13-under par for the tournament. Seven players are tied for sixth, including Tim Clark and Jerry Kelly. Defending champion Brandt Snedeker slipped with a third round score of 74, falling to 73rd place.
