Chiefs vs. Dolphins Pre Game Gab
Posted by Shawn McAllister on August 22nd, 2008 filed in Features, OpinionsThe injury bug has officially landed in Kansas City. Thursday in practice promising rookie receiver Will Franklin went down with a right knee injury. It does not seem to be a serious injury, but it may keep Franklin out of the game against the Dolphins. Franklin was saying all the right things saying it was just a “tweak” and it’s nothing serious. At some point the Chiefs have get a little nervous already Brandon Albert is out as is his counter part on the line Damion Mcintosh is out.
So is Donnie Edwards and his replacement DeMario Williams broke a bone in his hand this week.. While he should be ready for the season opener. The injury has to be disappointing because the Chiefs were starting to experiment with Williams as a down lineman pass rusher. The Chiefs need to get healthy in a hurry, they play a angry Patriots team in two weeks.
Against the Dolphins the Chiefs will play their starters well into the third quarter.. The third game is usually the last tune up for the starters before the regular season. In the last preseason game versus the Rams the starters may only go for one series. Herm has stated he wants to get quarterback Brodie Croyle into a two minute drive and get a extended look at Glen Dorsey who has regained his health and should be ready to roll against the Dolphins. With the starters going three quarters in Miami there are five story lines the Chiefs coaching staff will be looking at.
Brandon Flowers vs. Ted Ginn: Last week Flowers proved he was a man in this league and could cover pro bowl receivers and big physical receivers. This week his test will be to see if he can keep up with a fast receiver. The one knock on Flowers coming out of V.T. is that he was not the fastest cornerback. Ted Ginn is not just fast he is next level potential fastest man in the league fast.
Turk McBride vs. Jake Long: Turk has been on tear as of late leading the NFL preseason with three sacks. He will have some stiff competition in Miami going head to head with first overall pick Jake Long. McBride has already entrenched him self as a starter on the line. He just needs to make some plays in this game to keep his confidence high as he rolls into the regular season.
Larry Johnson vs. Dolphins linebackers: The Dolphins 3 starting backers form a very nice trio and Larry Johnson has looked pretty good this preseason but has not completely looked like his old self. He looks to be at about 93% of the old L.J. I am not saying he is still injured he could just be shaking off some rust . In his first real extended playing time since his injury L.J. needs to come out and shine.
Dontrell Savage vs. Dolphins kick coverage unit: Dontrell is probably going to make this team as the kick returner but before the Chiefs just come out and give him a roster spot he is going to have to prove that he is no fluke against the Dolphins. Savage and Jamal Charles returning kicks looks pretty nice on paper but like I said the Chiefs will want concrete proof that a undrafted rookie free agent is legit before they welcome him aboard.
Glen Dorsey vs. Samson Satele: Even though Satele is a very good young player that is not what makes this match up exciting. It will be because this will be Glen Dorsey’s first real playing time. The big boy from Louisiana will be fully ready to roll and needs to show he can bring what he did in college over to the pros.
