Orange Basketball in Vitale's pre-season ranking

. Wednesday, September 10, 2008

The newest member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Dick Vitale, has come out with his pre-season Top 40. There is good news for the Orange, coming in at the 26th spot of Dickie V's poll. But there is also some bad news for the Orange, but definitely not for the Big East conference.

What is the bad news? There is plenty of teams from the Big East on Dicky V's list. Louisville is the first team from the conference mentioned by the ESPN analyst, and it comes in as the second best squad. Right behind the Cards it is the Huskies, with the Fighting Irish also in the Top 10, in the sixth slot of the list. One more team from the BE is in the first ten squad, Pittsburgh comes in 10th. Marquette, Georgetown and Villanova are all in the Top 20, with the Golden Eagles at 12th, the Hoyas 15th and the Wildcats 16th. The last squad from the conference to make the list is WVU, with the Mountaineers coming in close to Syracuse, at the 28th position.

If this ranking by Vitale is even close to what is going to happen in the Big East this season, watch out cause there will be sparks with every conference game. In a conference where all the coaches believe road games are never easy, with so many teams having the talent to be this good, you have to believe that both upsets and great games are all in the makings come hardwoods season.
